City Council President Jeanette Herron Cements Committee Assignments, One May Surprise You

New City Council President Jeanette Herron has named committee assignments and co-chairs and from the looks of things on the surface spread the wealth around, even among those who did not support her at Monday night’s vote, when she defeated her North End district partner Aikeem Boyd 11-9 which saw the end of an era with Aidee Nieves as leader of the 20-member legislative body.

Herron provided a nod to Nieves, however, naming her to the key Budget and Appropriations Committee and as co-chair of Miscellaneous Matters with Maria Pereira. I don’t know, maybe the new leader has a mischievous side putting those two together; it’s like the irresistible force versus the immovable object such is their relationship of give and take.

They’re not the best of buds.

Miscellaneous Matters oversees the mayor’s proposed appointments to boards and commissions as well as approving legal settlements recommended by the City Attorney’s Office.

See Herron’s appointments below, the first two serve as co-chairs.

  1. I’m not surprised. Herron recognizes the positive qualities, commitment, and experience of fellow council members having served for a decade.
It looks like Herron has taken a page from El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele. During past administrations El Salvador kept imprisoned rival gang members separately. Bukele’s position is: If they want to kill each other, so be it. They will either kill each other or learn how to get along. So far, it’s working out at El CECOT.

One important observation here is 8 Hispanics on the council. Jeannette Herron’s mother is Puerto Rican from Isabela, P.R. All 👀 on the mayoral.
