My oh my does it seem like Mother Rell is playing Santa Claus in the final weeks of her governorship? Yup. Nice way to shape her legacy. From Senators Gomes and Musto:
SENS. GOMES & MUSTO WELCOME GRANTS FOR BRIDGEPORT PARKS
Funds set to be approved for improvements to tornado-hit parks
Hartford – Two Bridgeport parks damaged during the June tornado are expected to receive state assistance grants when the State Bond Commission meets next week, news that state Senators Ed Gomes (D-Bridgeport) and Anthony Musto (D-Trumbull) today welcomed.
The State Bond Commission is expected to approve $1 million for improvements and renovations to Washington and Knowlton Parks, areas that were hit hard by the EF-1 tornado, which carried winds nearly 100 miles per hour and cut a path through the Park City 100 yards wide and two-tenths of a mile long.
“The tornado caused a lot of damage to Bridgeport, much of which we’re still dealing with today,” said Senator Gomes. “This grant is good news for our city and will help restore our oldest park, Washington Park. Thanks to Governor Rell for her support and for putting this on the bond agenda.”
“The violent storm in June forced families out of their homes and destroyed sections of our city,” Senator Musto said. “In the absence of federal aid, I’m very happy to see Governor Rell taking the initiative to help repair two of the Park City’s public spaces. This funding will go a long way toward restoring the trees and other landmarks that were lost during the storm.”
The June tornado uprooted nearly half the trees in Washington Park. First set aside in 1851, the four-acre Washington Park in East Bridgeport was the city’s first public park.
The State Bond Commission is scheduled to meet on Friday, December 10, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in Room 1E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
