Malloy And Foley Fight, Bridgeport’s Turnout Factor

Less than four weeks and the governor’s race is a nail-gnawer. When it’s this close, unless someone does something really stupid, candidates Dan Malloy and Tom Foley are battling at the margins. If you missed the Tuesday night tussle  between them check out the closing arguments. Good stuff. If video above does not open for you try www.courant.com/news/politics/hc-gubernatorial-debate-1006-20101005,0,2396026.story

Most of the public opinion polls show this race within the margin of error. What the polls cannot measure is turnout in Bridgeport, Hartford and New Haven. Some Bridgeport Democratic operatives say it won’t hit 30 percent. That’s poison for Malloy. Reports I’ve received from Dems going door to door is yuck, there’s no enthusiasm, voters are disinterested, some have the temper of a rattlesnake. The Malloy campaign must figure out a way to juice a turnout in Connecticut’s cities.

Malloy was here a few weeks ago to talk port development. He’ll need to be here a few more times.

    1. The crime: Local Eyes was unable to see BOTH SIDES of last night’s closing arguments via the OnlyinBridgeport.com video. I tried for 5 minutes.

The verdict: Journalistic Gerrymandering, which is to deny the showing of one candidate’s closing remarks so as to give the other an advantage.

Always biased and never fair is an unwise policy that lowers the bar for something important to blogging in Bridgeport and the prospects of your paid advertisers.

  1. *** Voters are damned if they do & damned if they don’t. So why not stay home election day & drink some coffee “not” tea and send a message! *** Back to basics ***

  2. Malloy has blown off the cities. Like you said he was here a few weeks ago and that’s it. He is not talking to the Democratic town chair in New Haven. So that’s 2 cities I don’t see him winning in.
You can try and energize the Dems here in Bridgeport but I don’t see that happening they are basically lazy and if there is nothing there for them then they stay home.

  3. Is it possible to have a candidate for Governor who is not a former mayor of a city? Some say there is clear bias. You think if push came to shove, an unbiased decision would be made regarding issues in Stamford?

Roland was former mayor for a city and some say there was clear bias.

  4. B-Now your OIB wish has been granted!

From now on at least one gubernatorial candidate from Connecticut must come from Grytviken in the South Sandwich Islands, a mere 6015 nautical miles from Bridgeport. Qualifications for office include five years of having sex with seals.

  5. Bridgeport then,
Whilst you are at it, riddle me this:
In which cities were the following Governors mayors:
    Jodi Rell
    Lowell P. Weicker, Jr.
    Ella T. Grasso
    William A. O’Neil
    Thomas J. Meskill
    John Dempsey
    Abraham Ribicoff

  6. This city needs a savior and it needs him soon. Did you happen to read the Debicella piece and then the Torres piece in the Post yesterday? A tale of two candidates. The bean counter and firebrand. Rick is the heart and soul of this city. It’s a damned shame he didn’t win. Debicella has no intention of even setting foot in this city.
