Local Transit Workers Endorse Finch For State Senate – ‘Advocate For Mass Transit, Renewable Energy’

The Bridgeport-based Local 1336 of the Amalgamated Transit Union that represents the transit bus operators, maintenance mechanics and dispatch supervisors for the Greater Bridgeport Transit District has endorsed Bill Finch who seeks to regain the state senate seat he occupied prior to his service as mayor of Bridgeport.

Finch faces three opponents in the August 13 Democratic primary to replace a retiring Marilyn Moore – law professor Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, City Councilman Scott Burns and ex councilman Tyler Mack. Connecticut’s 22nd District covers one third of Bridgeport, all of Trumbull and southern Monroe.

Statement from Mustafa Salahuddin, president of Local 1335:

“Bill Finch has always been an advocate for transit workers and mass transit.  As a member of the CT Roundtable On Climate and Jobs I am passionate about creating the good union jobs we need to fight climate change and Bill Finch has been a national leader in that effort. He’s supported mass transit improvements such as new rail cars, new buses powered by renewable energy, signalization upgrades to make trains quicker, and train and bus station renovation in Bridgeport and Trumbull. Bill Finch, a leader deeply committed to the community, possesses the knowledge and experience to bring about positive change for the residents of Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Monroe. His efforts have resulted in the return of hundreds of millions of dollars to the 22nd Senatorial district for new schools, parks, the rails to trails initiative, and new senior centers. As a native of this region, Bill understands its potential and I am confident in his ability to be an effective lawmaker from day one.”
