Connecticut Post reporter Ken Dixon is one of the good guys and also one of the finest state capitol reporters on the planet with a twisted sense of humor. Back in the day (25 years ago, yikes!) we’d play city hall versus city room softball at various Bridgeport parks. The thing about pols and scribes, most all are pretty bad relating to anything athletic. Dixon was an exception, a fierce competitor and prepared. One day a routine fly ball came my way in the outfield. I trotted in for the ball and my sneakers skidded on the grass. I ended up on my ass and the ball rolled for extra bases. Dixon was repulsed at the sight of a friend on his butt, even though I was the opposition. When I trotted toward the bench after the inning, Dixon greeted me in the infield with a pair of cleats. “Put these on and don’t do that again,” he said. Dixon lifts up his friends. Kenny is recovering from difficult cancer surgery. For more on what’s going on read his latest column here. Be well soon Kenny.
