Berliner-Gelfand, a city-based insurance agency, has relocated to Phil Kuchma’s Bijou Square complex on Fairfield Avenue downtown. News release:
Berliner-Gelfand & Co. Inc., the premier independent insurance agency that has proudly met the insurance needs of Bridgeport-area homeowners and businesses for more than four decades, announced it has moved its offices to 277 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport.
“Berliner-Gelfand is committed to the community that my family has worked with to provide insurance for two generations,” said agency principal James R. Berliner, CPCU. “While we are pleased to maintain a Bridgeport address, we are excited to be part of the new development of Bridgeport’s historical downtown section.”
The agency’s office previously was located at 533 Clinton Ave. for 41 years. The firm is retaining its phone and e-mail contact information and welcomes new or current clients.

That’s great news … there’s also “Melt Cafe and Market” moving into a double retail space on the Lafayette Circle side of 323 Fairfield next to the New Robinhood Cleaners. Also recently opened is Moda Hair Salon on the Fairfield Avenue side.
This is supposed to be another feel-good moment for B’port? This is like Chavez bakery that relocated to the old Hubbell site in the West End. It doesn’t increase employment, but we move in BPT. Here’s another move that isn’t headline news. My brother-in-law Gilberto Ortega lost his house on Garfield Ave. and is moving to an apartment on Stratford Ave. Do we feel good about that?
