A video released by Joe Ganim’s campaign hits a positive note focused on taxes, public safety and jobs, as the former mayor engages the homestretch to reclaim his old job.
The cable spot declares “Joe Ganim believes in Bridgeport … with the people … for the people. Joe Ganim is who Bridgeport needs right now … To keep taxes down. Make streets safer. And create new jobs. Proven. Effective Leadership. Vote Democrat. Vote the Top Line.”
The commercial places emphasis on Ganim’s top line Democratic position. He defeated incumbent Bill Finch in the September party primary.

Joe Ganim, it pains me terribly to again have to give credit where credit is due. Fucking excellent! Torres, excellent! I’ve spent too much time knocking on doors and on the phone. I need to sit in a meeting and scream!!! That commercial makes you feel terrific! But your campaign has been run so magnificently it kills me!
I see blondes with wine here, Steve. At first blush (or cabernet), that’s the image here. Back up and look at this from the perspective of the uninformed voter.
He still didn’t ask for forgiveness.
The commercial succeeded on every level. It was a slick production by people who know what they are doing. I give credit where credit is due. I thought John Torres did an exceptional job. I am not sure who did Foster’s commercial. I am not pleased!
The uninformed voter sees a friendly, approachable huggable guy, sites around Bridgeport. I heard Joe Ganim Loves Bridgeport. I saw different neighborhoods of different color people. I saw a well-produced, good-feeling ad. WHAT DID YOU SEE???????????????????????????
Joe’s commercial leaves me waiting for me to hear his voice. He is subdued by the lack of his own voice in the commercial. It is slick and fast and not really something to connect with. Torres has a direct message. People before insider profits. Torres. A vote for Torres is a vote for honest, people-first government. That message is consistent because it is a clear vision. Gaming, running around town, posing in front of construction sites and shaking hands does not convey any message but he is running around town, posing in front of construction sites and shaking hands. It was obviously a work for hire by outside video production, it is flat and dispassionate. Good for them.
What the ad leaves out is business as usual. A Ganim staff member called me to broker to Torres the State Rep seat of Stafstrom. I said, it’s a presidential race, large voter turnout, it will not happen. They promised to deliver the votes if Torres did not enter the race and endorsed Ganim. Ganim knows he either needs both Torres and Foster in the race to win, or for Torres to drop out and join forces with him. No way Foster would drop out because of the Testa-Stafstrom power games. Obviously Torres will not be running on the Joe line for State Rep. Torres has offered since the primary results and as late as last Friday for Foster to agree to an independent poll, the winner stays. Torres even offered to endorse Foster if he lost. We did not ask or expect the same of Foster. Our mailers have not even hit, and we were willing to do the right thing. Foster has repeatedly said no. When I first moved to Bridgeport, Rick would talk about the machine politics in the city, the DTC infighting between Mario and Stafstrom for control of the jobs, contracts, bonding. I kind of thought he was a bit of a conspiracy theorist. Sixteen years, and working on both local and state elections, sitting in the paid staff seats, and not just the rah rah volunteer meetings, has proven Torres to be correct. For those of you who were anti-Finch and are now pro-Foster because she has changed her platform and owes her $$$ and votes to Finch now, I just do not understand. Of course there are those who think only Democrats can win, because you believe in your core the voters of this city are not able to read a newspaper and stop to think this time the choices in your Democrat candidates are both the same failed policies and people who have driven this city to the brink of moral and fiscal bankruptcy once again, and will only choose between the two candidates, supported and promoted by the two major power brokers of this city. If Torres were a Democrat, this Republican would still support and work tireless to get him elected.
I should add, Mario has already sent a message to Torres. If he wins, Mario would like to crush Stafstrom and drive him out of this city once and for all. Nice message, team Ganim.
Well Jennifer, if Foster wins, Mario Testa will be gone. Well wait, I shouldn’t say that because I haven’t heard anything said about that, I would be wrong to make that comment. Jennifer, why would Mario send that message to Torres??? Does Testa imagine anyone thinks he is the good guy and Stafstrom is evil?
I KNOW YOU OR ANYONE IN THE TORRES CAMP RECEIVED SUCH A CALL FROM MARIO.
Not a call, Andy. A message delivered by a “friendly.”
Ron and Donald–Shays donated to the Foster primary race. At that time he believed she was a reform-minded candidate and her husband the Republican put huge pressure on Shays to donate because of all the money they raised for Shays. He has sent a much larger check to Torres and a letter to the editor of the CT Post, he was not at all happy with the implication of the Post he supported Foster over Torres.
The police and the unions think Mario is the good guy and Stafstrom is evil, no idea why, except perhaps Mario thinks Torres has a darn good shot at winning. Perhaps no hard feelings for Torres not stepping down and endorsing Joe? I have no idea how criminal minds think because I do not watch that TV show.
I guess we know where the blonde vote is going. The thumbnail says it all. Surrounded by blondes with wine. Nice.
If Foster had a campaign that addressed women, it may have been her vote!
Interesting letter to the editor published in this morning’s Connecticut Post. It was written by Michael Wolf, FBI Special Agent In Charge of Connecticut during the investigation into the Ganim administration that was called “Operation Hardball.” it reads in part:
“A number of news articles have inaccurately portrayed former FBI Agent Edward Adams as the lead investigator in the Ganim case. There was also speculation that Adams may be in consideration, in some capacity, for a “public integrity” role in the Ganim administration, in an apparent effort to allay public concerns that Ganim would return to his corrupt ways should he be elected.
“To correct the record, Adams was a line investigator who assisted in the investigation, along with a number of others. He was not the lead investigator and did not bear responsibility for making strategic case decisions, and as such, heading a “public integrity” initiative may be better served with someone else.”
SAG Wolf goes on,
“The possibility that the city may revert to harmful practices of old is most troubling. As a serial bank robber, convicted and sentenced for crimes would never be employed by the financial institution he robbed, a mayor who swindled a city he was entrusted to govern, should not be given the opportunity to do it again.
“Many investigators and attorneys who worked tirelessly on the Ganim case and subsequent prosecution are appalled and dismayed that he may again have the opportunity to victimize the city and its people.”
So The Crook is still an unrepentant liar, misrepresenting former FBI Agent Adams’ importance to the investigation of his administration.
It is appalling that one of the city’s communities would allow itself to be pimped out, yet again, sold out for $20 per vote, so a convicted felon and documented liar may resume the criminal activities he was imprisoned for.
Mary-Jane Foster, while unburdened by a felony record, has compromised her core values by accepting the support and “endorsement” of Bill Finch and the Campaign That Couldn’t Shoot Straight. There is a deal to keep Bill Finch and a few of his cronies on the municipal payroll. Ms. Foster, in a tradition begun by Richard Nixon’s White House back in 1972, has issued non-denial denials when the subject is brought up by reporters. Members of her campaign staff pucker up tighter than a Tupperware seal when asked. Their silence, coupled with Ms. Foster’s evasiveness and non-denial denials, is more than a little conspicuous. Why is she and her staff unable or unwilling to answer a simple question? The truth will set her free. It certainly couldn’t do any further damage to an already damaged campaign that was late off the blocks and has failed to gain traction in many neighborhoods.
Great, another FBI person talking about Bridgeport. You want to comment on your former agent, fine; but talking about Foster by you is out of bounds.
Up yours, Andy. Foster is a public figure running for elected office. She is not Agnes of God, not Mother Teresa nor Saint Mary. No one and nothing is out of bounds. Stop acting as if Foster is a deity. She is far from sainthood. If you don’t like my opinions, well hey, that’s just too goddamned bad for you.
You really are an asshole. I don’t like your opinions and I don’t like you. Go play your guitar.
Opinions? It has been clearly established Foster has aligned herself with the white-collar branch of the Testa political corruption family known colloquially as the Democratic Town Committee. Ms. Foster reversed herself by issuing an amended 50-day list of miracles. Gone was the elimination of no-show jobs on the city payroll, among other sudden compromises. She got into bed with Finch, Stafstrom, et al., merely for political gain, and ain’t politics great?
You are so wrong. I wonder when you will get something right. The town committee is a group that meets to endorse candidates just like the Republican town committee. Your idea the town committee has power is misguided and wrong. How come when MJF states something you say it’s all BS but when Torres says something it’s like the second coming? Politics is great because it allows people like you who don’t have a clue to pontificate on a subject you know nothing about.
The voiceover is incredibly creepy.
Andrew Fardy.
Oh my God, I just watched it again and a shiver overcame my entire body. Nay, my soul. I feel dirty. I’m gonna go take a shower. I’m feeling a spoof of this commercial in my future.
If you felt dirty, I have to tell you, you need to shower more than once a month.
That was a solid attempt at humor, Fardy!
It failed.
