Ganim, “Incredible Momentum” Seeks Another Run For History Books

Mayor Joe Ganim, the second-longest serving mayor in Bridgeport’s history, is seeking another four-year term next year and if successful will surpass Socialist Jasper McLevy’s 24-year tenure record, 1933-57.

Ganim piggy-backed this announcement following his budget submission to the City Council with a historically low tax rate, 27.75 – forged by higher real estate values – not seen since the McLevy mayoral years.

Ganim statement:

“Bridgeport has incredible momentum right now. We’re delivering the largest mill rate drop in decades, a record investment in our schools and libraries, increased tax relief for seniors and veterans, and free access for residents to our parks. Transformational growth is underway across the city from the harbor at Steelpointe and former PSEG site to the East Side, Downtown, and beyond. We’ve built a strong foundation, but the job isn’t finished. I’m running to complete the work that we have done on so many fronts to improve the City we love.”
Ganim has scheduled his first fundraiser for April 16 at Boca Oyster Bar adjacent to more than 400 units of housing rising at Steelpointe Harbor, a signature development, with “special guest” Governor Ned Lamont.
Statement from Lamont campaign:
“Mayor Joe Ganim has been a partner to Governor Ned Lamont in advancing priorities in Bridgeport. Together, they’ve worked on efforts to expand housing, support economic development, create jobs, and invest in education for the city’s residents.”

City Councilman Jorge Cruz has formed an exploratory committee for mayor. John Gomes, Ganim’s 2023 key challenger, says he’s considering another run.
