Ganim Fundraising Cracks $400K Since Start Of Comeback

Joe Ganim’s stunning Democratic primary win over Mayor Bill Finch was backed by roughly $300,000 in campaign cash raised in spring and summer. Although Ganim was outspent by roughly two to one by Finch who had raised his haul over a couple of years, the primary result wasn’t based on what Finch spent, it was based on what Ganim spent. He had plenty of dough to compete.

The Ganim campaign reports the latest finance report will show the former mayor raised roughly $45,000 in the past two weeks bringing his total raised to more than $400,000 since he declared his candidacy in May.

“The residents of this great city are speaking both through their heartfelt support and also through their wonderful donations and generosity to our campaign and I am deeply grateful for this overwhelming demonstration of support,” said Ganim in a statement. “The people of Bridgeport are truly receptive to our message of proven effective leadership and our Democratic values and we intend to deliver the results people want if we are given the precious opportunity to govern.”

Ganim’s chief rivals Mary-Jane Foster and Republican Enrique Torres will also be filing reports with the Town Clerk’s Office.

Ganim and Foster both have fundraisers planned Thursday night and more before the Nov. 3 general election. Both camps have fundraising goals to spend at least $200,000 during the last three weeks.

In addition, Ganim will be aided by money raised by Town Chair Mario Testa for the Democratic Town Committee.

  1. Just my two cents. I have been involved with the City since 1979. I worked under Ganim and four other mayors. I was just a soldier during those times but I did think under Ganim it was the best morale in the City and the most got done. Now that I’m involved with the politics, I see Mayor Ganim more close up and I am extremely impressed with his organization and leadership abilities, not the least of which is this impressive fundraising.

May the best man or woman win. I have respect for all the candidates. This time I think it is different with Ganim. He retains his leadership and management skills and his incredible energy but has lost the crowd that pulled him into trouble and he is this time working for the community who have resoundingly spoken on his behalf. Very impressive. The money of incumbency and the entrenched contractors is not behind him but the community is. And by the way, Jeff Kohut is a very smart, ethical individual.

    1. Bob, you are still just a soldier. One with thick glasses. Ganim was the wrong crowd, don’t be silly. Like a parent who doesn’t want their child to go back to the wrong crowd. Your child IS the wrong crowd. The fundraising impresses you? That would be a bunch of people trying to buy an election because they think it will benefit them. You find that impressive? That is all political money has become. However, in Bridgeport that would mean the big boys are rallying around their golden child. Funny how his campaign image is all about the average person on the street. But the real motivation is to get back to the caviar crowd. If he is truly working for the community, that will be a miraculous change of a person. I have seen very few changes quite that severe. But the common procedure is to prove it first and then get the privileges, not to get the privileges on the hopes of mythical redemption. Sandals and a loincloth? Give me a break.

    2. Let’s not forget. Ganim’s a crook. Isn’t that right, Bob? Not only did he steal cash from businesses doing work for the city and steal free services from the same, on top of that he stole $600,000 from the taxpayers when he installed sewers for all on Sailors Lane where his new house just happened to be.
But worst of all, he stole the city’s future by sandbagging Steal Point in order to give development rights to his corrupt cronies and he stole from the future with the disaster he created with Downtown North, which to this day looks like a war zone.
So Joe, I have no problem with you running again but could you please wait until the city is whole from your first disastrous term???

  2. I do not think the morale was so great in city hall during the Ganim corruption trial. I think the reputation of the city suffered a devastating blow that crippled economic growth for nearly 20 years. There is more economic activity in Bridgeport now than in the last 50 years. I think the Steelpointe Scandal under Ganim should be revisited, and often. I do not think the average voter is concerned about the perception of morale from the anti-Finch minority of city workers. I definitely believe Mary-Jane Foster will be a breath of fresh air compared to the rotting stink of corruption. Mary-Jane FOSTER CLOSED DOWN MASSAGE PARLORS IN RESPECTABLE NEIGHBORHOODS. I AM CERTAIN MANY OF THESE ARE GANIM SUPPORTERS. 11 YEARS OF GANIM, SEVEN YEARS OF JAIL. ENOUGH!!!

LISA AND JEFF, YOUR COMMENTS HAVE BECOME VERY HATEFUL AND OUT OF CHARACTER. CHARACTER ASSASSINATIONS OF FOSTER DO NOT COMPARE HER TO JOE. HIS NEGATIVE COMMENTS ARE FACTUAL AND WARRANTED AND NEED TO REPEATED OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO THE VOTERS OF THIS CITY–LINE G FOR GONE GANIM, GONE.

BY THE WAY LISA YOU USED TO REFER TO PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELF AS HATERS. YOU ARE BECOMING THE VERY ESSENCE OF THAT WHICH YOU LOATHE. HOW IS THAT???

    1. Steve, if that’s how you’re perceiving me I’ll have to do some soul searching because that’s the last thing I want to be. I admit my reaction to MJF when she so quickly welcomed Finch’s support was over the line. It was my expectation of her that was dashed. That’s not her fault, it’s my problem. I don’t think I’ve gone there again, if I comment on politics, well that’s what I do. If she becomes Mayor, I will respect her and the office she holds.

  3. Steven, are you really in any position to talk about people’s comments being out of character? You, the same person who threatened to shove their member in my mouth at one point?

Shame, SHAME SHAME on you for calling the kettle black!

    1. Bpt Punisher, I was talking to Lisa Parziale, I was calling the kettle black and I would appreciate it if you would not comment about my freakishly huge member in your mouth. The visual is disturbing to me.

  4. The crackpot haters are backing Mary-Jane Finchster, they remind me of the hating Republicans who drove their own speaker of the house out of his job, not surprising Finch wanted to run as a Republican and Mary-Jane Finchster’s hubby is a big-shot Republican.

    1. BPT REBEL’s point is the Mary-Jane Finchster supporters are hypocrites. Bill Finch, their Tiki god, shot hisself in the foot so many times he needed a wooden leg. He’s a hypocrite as well, crossing party lines by approaching Rick Torres to give up the Republican nomination. Bill Finch is not a real Democrat. He lost the primary to The Crook, fair and square. He, or more likely his handlers, failed to file paperwork in a timely manner and now he’s out to pasture.

Finch threw his support behind Mary-Jane Foster, after she criticized him for seven-plus years. Now she gets to wear the brass tiara of the princess of hypocrisy.
