*** First to step up must be State and City government, followed by local business, city clergy and schools, along with much-needed support from the local community! *** Time to fight “Crime Cancer!” ***
So why is the administration of Bridgeport trying to force the Boys and Girls Club, a 100+-year organization (formerly the Boys Club) to relinquish their building on Madison Ave? The Boys and Girls Club was awarded $2.8 million to renovate its 60+-year-old building through the largess of then-legislator Chris Caruso to allow the club to continue its Weed and Seed Program funded by the Federal Government to offer the good kids of the North End a safe haven. This facility is and has been continuously operating despite waiting for these funds the city (which has no standing in this matter) is trying to give to the Sheehan Center. This is apparently being done so the city can give the repair contracts to “preferred” contractors who support the current powers in the administration.
The city’s position is that of a non-standing third party that is interfering with the continuous operation of the Boys and Girls Club.
This matter was tabled by the Malloy Administration at the urging of all but one of Bridgeport’s legislators who has refused to help.
This all goes back to the tenets of this blog.
*** Boys & Girls Club on Madison Ave. has appeared closed for quite some time now and might be used as a Seniors Center in the near future once Kuchma gets rights to the present Eisenhower Center Building which the city would like to unload. However, if Caruso has any input with his boss Malloy, you would think he would try to seek some State interest for old time’s sake concerning the B&G’s club, no? If not there’s always room for another non-profit holy-rolly church in Bpt! *** HERE WE GO! ***
*** Maybe if he and his step down; Bpt might be able to step up, no? *** Just Saying! ***
