A paperwork processing glitch that had denied Republican Quentin Dreher a ballot spot for the February 24th special election for State Senate was rescued Friday by a court action filed by former Republican State Senator Rob Russo and approved by Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis.
The office of Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill had denied Dreher ballot access because the convention certification had been returned to the Bridgeport Town Clerk and not Merrill’s office.
Russo brought an action for injunction in front of Judge Bellis demanding the court order Dreher be put on the ballot.
So this means the Town Clerk’s Office must print new ballots to include Dreher on the Republican line. The special election will fill the vacancy left by Andres Ayala, the new commissioner of the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
The ballot lineup is as follows for Connecticut’s 23rd Senate District:
Democrat Richard DeJesus
Republican Quentin Dreher
Working Families Party Ed Gomes
Petitioning candidate Charles Hare
Petitioning candidate Ken Moales
When it comes to Connecticut’s 23rd Senate District, political certainty is disappearing faster than a pizza on Super Bowl Sunday!
