DiNardo Whacks Walker On Gun Control Response

Democratic State Party Chair Nancy DiNardo welcomed Republican David Walker’s exploratory campaign for lieutenant governor with a stinging statement regarding Walker’s response to a reporter’s question about gun control. From DiNardo:

Speaking at his Lt. Governor campaign announcement press conference today, David Walker stunned Connecticut by dismissing the tragedy at Sandy Hook and the efforts to prevent future tragedies. From CT News Junkie, “Walker was less interested in discussing other controversial issues. During the press conference, he was asked about his position on gun control and the new firearm regulations passed last year after the Sandy Hook shooting … Walker answered the question, saying he would not have supported the bill, but he qualified his answer. ‘I’m going to focus on the economy, jobs, and fiscal responsibility,’ he said. ‘I will deal, as you are requesting, with certain social issues that are important to many people but in my view are not ‘Priority One.'” [CT News Junkie, 1/13/14]

“Not much surprises me anymore, but David Walker’s cavalier, dismissive attitude is shocking,” said Nancy DiNardo, Connecticut Democratic Party Chairwoman. “To refer to the public policy debate that rightly followed the Sandy Hook tragedy as a ‘social issue’ demeans the importance of the debate. It’s not a ‘social issue’; it’s an issue involving the safety and security of our children and the adults in whose care we place them every day. He ought to be ashamed of himself, and he ought to apologize.”

DiNardo continued, “One more thing, he said he was dealing with the issue because a reporter requested him to. So much for leadership. Not exactly a profile in courage.”

  1. Was she waiting on his announcement to POUNCE with a discrediting zinger? Smells like that to me, and will to many others. Coulda waited Nance, it would not have looked like you were so nervous. It would have looked way cooler. Timing is everything. I do believe you have a TELL. FAIL.

  2. Typical politicians answer how sad gun control carries no weight. “I’m going to focus on the economy, jobs, and fiscal responsibility,’ he said. ‘I will deal, as you are requesting, with certain social issues that are important to many people but in my view are not ‘Priority One.'” [CT News Junkie, 1/13/14]
When did the loss of young lives get knock down in priority?
You will not see my vote.

  3. *** Nancy probably doesn’t even own a weapon; and when does one question and partial answer on gun control make or break a candidate’s qualification to run for a political office? *** FORGETABOUTIT ***

  4. Nancy DiNardo, Connecticut Democratic Party Chairwoman,
Answer to Gun Control is a 120-bed Halfway House right across the street from a playground at Bridgeport Went Field Park.
Nancy said, “It’s not a ‘social issue;’ it’s an issue involving the safety and security of our children and the adults in whose care we place them every day. He (Dave Walker) ought to be ashamed of himself, and he ought to apologize.”

Nancy and her partner brother Sal DiNardo ought be ashamed of themselves and to apologize to the children and adults of Went Field Park for their feeble attempt at Gun Control. I’m sure many of Nancy and Sal’s future tenants have used guns in the past.

You can’t make this stuff up!

  5. Good God. What a nasty bitch. Clearly she is beside herself after being tossed out as the Trumbull Democratic Chairman. Well if you can’t kick the cat then I guess a Republican is the next best thing.

  6. When people bring up these side issues, DW should just say ‘I do not know, I have not studied the issue.’ He has studied economy and debt and should stick to what he knows. Continue to re-enforce the importance of this issue. For all the other issues, ask the person ‘attacking’ to let him see and review their plan. Read the plan and if it sounds viable, support that plan, unless a better plan comes up. One person cannot be aware of and versed in everything. Stick with the issues you think are important. There are other issues that are also important but someone else can concentrate on those. Then DW can jump on with that person. Do not be afraid to side-step these ambushes by saying ‘I do not know. I have not looked at any data on this issue. I will look into it and get back to you.’ Then look at what everyone else is doing and follow what seems to be the best idea.

    1. He needs to deflect his detractors who just try to confuse things. DW could probably use some media training to stave off the wolves who will try to knock his sense out of him. Stay on point DW, don’t let your excellent points be distracted by the static!

  7. Nancy Wyman has a proven track record with Bridgeport, both as State Comptroller and as Lt. Governor. I believe Mr. Walker should have made his intentions known and made a run for the top job as there is no clear-cut candidate in the Republican party for that seat. I can’t remember the last time someone held a news conference to announce his/her plan to run for the second spot.

  8. Thank god FINALLY someone enters the race with the intelligence I will vote for and pay attention to. Gun control is NOT on my list of priorities. Sorry folks. But the economy is. Top of my list. We’ve spent quite enough bogus time on the issue of gun control. Let me tell you, the politicians who waste their time on this issue as a priority are only doing so to hope to sway votes, they don’t care about it. David Walker, you go with your breath of fresh air self. You have my vote.
FINALLY someone who is not a talking head pandering to the hysterical mothers. Phhewww.
