International Delegation of Sustainable Development Designers to Arrive in Bridgeport, CT.

Bridgeport Design Group hosts prestigious delegation from Technische Universität München/ClimateDesign. “After Industry; Recycling the City of Bridgeport” to focus on sustainable revitalization of ex-industrial areas, provide a model for similar cities worldwide.

Bridgeport Design Group, an interdisciplinary group of designers, planners and architects will host a delegation of postgraduate students from around the world. The students, accomplished mechanical engineers, urban planners and architects, attend the school of ClimateDesign at the Technische Universität München (TUM – Technical University of Munich). The intensive workshop will concentrate on the redevelopment challenges and opportunities presented at sites along the Pequonnock River, the Former GE Headquarters, and Steel Point in Bridgeport. An exhibition and presentation reporting the comprehensive findings of the After Industry Workshop will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Gallery 305K, 305 Knowlton Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut. The event is free and open to the public.

“We are so fortunate to have forged this collaboration with the world’s leading institutions on how to develop sustainable communities,” explained Nils Wiesenmüller, principal, Bridgeport Design Group and a 2009 graduate of the ClimateDesign Master’s program. Wiesenmüller also serves as an adjunct professor at TUM. “This workshop is designed to use Bridgeport as a model for how to incorporate some of the most cutting edge, holistic urban planning and sustainable design technologies available.”
