Rejected by the zoning commission, the developer of a proposed self-storage facility at the former Stop & Shop in the North End has filled an appeal in state court, arguing he met all regulation requirements.
A coalition of neighbors, elected officials and mayoral candidates in an election year opposed the plan citing incompatibility with the makeup of the neighborhood.
They have urged the developer-owner of the site Hugh Scott to instead convert the property into senior housing and/or a senior center. Scott said he would consider a hybrid of the two but that also did not fly with neighbors.
Scott asserts that his self-storage proposal would create little impact on the neighborhood while generating additional tax revenue.

I hope Hugh Scott wins his appeal.
If elected officials and neighbors want more senior housing, build it!
