From Republican candidate for Congress Dan Debicella:
The Connecticut Post reported yesterday that Congressman Jim Himes is co-sponsoring legislation that advocates for a National Charles Darwin Day.
“You have got to be kidding me–who cares?” said (former) State Senator and candidate for Congress Dan Debicella. “Fairfield County families are hurting, with high unemployment and exploding healthcare costs–and this is what Jim Himes thinks is important?”
“Jim Himes and his Washington consultants have concluded they need to change the conversation to anything but the economy and healthcare. His political tactic here is to try to pick a fight that has been settled (teaching evolution in schools), and try to create controversy around it. Our families deserve better than these cynical political moves.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, the economy remains 1.3 million jobs short of where it was when Congressman Himes was first elected. Out of the 5 bills Himes has sponsored so far this year, not a single one has to do with creating jobs.
In addition to his record on jobs, Himes’ job performance on healthcare continues to worsen. Just this week the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office released a report finding that ObamaCare will push 2 million more workers out of the labor market.
“Jim’s actions are hurting families like the one I met in Trumbull who now faces more than a $10,000 increase to their health insurance,” continued Debicella. “Not only is this the same family that Jim told on October 11th of last year that they could keep their insurance, but when he had the opportunity to help them and fix it–he voted no. Jim voted against the bipartisan legislation that would have allowed them to keep their current health insurance.
“Fairfield County voters are smart, and will not be fooled by Jim Himes’ attempts to change the conversation. He will be doing this again and again in the next nine months, but voters will see through these cynical moves to hold Jim Himes accountable for his record on the economy and healthcare.”
It is not a Congressman’s job to create jobs. The savvy voters of Fairfield County understand that. Those who disagree are likely to spend their time reading magazines while sitting in Darwin’s waiting room.
Then it would be really nice if job creation were removed from their campaign speeches and literature AND they would stop taking credit for new jobs created.
Mr. Debicella makes an interesting point in his Charles Darwin day criticism, however these BULLSHIT stories attacking Obama’s healthcare, like most Republicans, are not only tiresome but Republicans have offered no alternative, Republicans have wasted time with 40 attempts to try to repeal. Yes the American public is smarter than you think. The rollout may have had a chaotic start like social security. Ultimately our country will be better off for having progressive forward-thinking individuals elected to office. There are so few Republicans who fit the bill. They are more involved with Benghazi, fighting gun laws and stifling woman and depriving immigrant and gay rights. Get with the program. Republicans beware … the next wave of registered voters are currently 16. I do not see them overwhelmingly supporting a Republican.
On a side note, I just heard my friend and former Mayor, the last Republican mayor voted into office in the City of Bridgeport, a woman I walked the entire city to get elected, Mary Chapar Moran will be honored on May 31st with a lifetime achievement award. I am very proud and will most likely attend the event. I am certain I will not be the only Democrat there. Okay maybe I will be but that is okay!!! 🙂
Who cares?
During Congressman Himes’ term stocks are up 100%, a new health care system is being introduced and two wars are being concluded.
That’s the kind of evolution Fairfield County voters admire.
And the workforce participation rate is the lowest since the 1970s, stock purchase margins are the highest in 10 years, the stock market is overvalued and there is disengagement, not conclusion of wars.
Debicella is a member of a party that has blocked extension of long-term unemployment benefits. Stop crying, you hypocrite. The people saw what you were last election and voted no and will again!

Mr. Debicella–really? Is this the best you can come up with?
