Statement from State Senator Herron Gaston who faces an August 13 primary challenge from City Councilman Ernie Newton.
I am thrilled to have earned the endorsement of the Working Families Party. Working Families are the bedrock of our democracy and the core of our democratic principles. The Working Families party continues to stand up for working families and has fought tirelessly to make the promises of economic freedom accessible and attainable for all people, especially the working poor. They are defenders of climate change, fair wage distribution, equality in employment opportunities, champions of educational quality, and are deeply invested in second chance programs to help formally incarcerated persons successfully reintegrate back into society.
As State Senator for the 23rd Senatorial District, I will continue to stand with working families and build a robust economy in Connecticut that works for everyone, not just high earners. Further, I will fight high taxes, combat crime and increase public safety, invest in the future of our young people, and enact policies that would make childcare more affordable, address the affordable housing shortage, and fight to ensure that families can put food on the table. Thank you, Bridgeport and Stratford, and the Working Families Party for your unwavering support of me as your incumbent State Senator. It has been an honor of a lifetime to be your strong voice in Hartford.
Congratulations! Let’s be honest it’s a no – brainer who is most likely to win. What about the 22nd district? All people? No working poor in the 22nd?

Where was the Working Family Party two years ago? You know where I was. The working family script/movie is one we all seen more than the classic 1982 Scarface starring Al Pacino. Say hello to my new friend!
