City Presses Brakes On Councilman’s Castillo’s Car Tax Payments To Shelton

He claims to live in Bridgeport but pays car taxes in Shelton at a lower rate and now Bridgeport finance officials are looking into making City Councilman Alfredo Castillo pony up to the Park City.

In a new twist to Castillo’s multiple issues, City Council President Aidee Nieves told him to eschew a Shelton car license address for Bridgeport. “”I told Alfredo he had to update his license to reflect his correct address.”

More from the Connecticut Post:

The city is investigating whether any of the five cars Councilman Alfredo Castillo pays taxes on in Shelton should instead be registered in Bridgeport, where the bills would be higher.

Castillo, 52, has recently come under scrutiny after two legal documents — a Fairfield Police Department report from May 2023 and an unrelated state-issued arrest warrant from this past June — listed his residence on Fern Drive in Shelton where his parents live. Castillo has said he resides on Noble Avenue near Bridgeport’s Beardsley Park, where he is also registered to vote. His City Council profile also lists the Noble Avenue residence.

Bridgeport property records show Castillo and his wife purchased the multi-family Noble Avenue property in 1998. It was then taken over in 2007 by a limited liability corporation, J&J Real Estate Holdings, registered with the state under Castillo’s name.
