State Rep. Auden Grogins, the blonde banshee from Black Rock, announces state dough for the Burroughs Community Center:
Representative Auden Grogins (D-Bridgeport) is pleased to announce the approval of $106,000 for renovations of the Burroughs Community Center (BCC). The funding was approved by the State Bond Commission at its Friday, April 27th meeting.
“This center has been an important part of the community for many years. Today, the programs it offers are indispensable to the Black Rock community and Bridgeport,” Rep. Grogins said. “This is money well-spent and will go a long way in the upkeep of the facility. I thank Governor Malloy for his support of this bond item.”
In addition to many programs for youths and adults, the BCC is home to numerous non-profit agencies, including the Bridgeport American Youth Soccer Organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut, the Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition, Safe Neighborhood AmeriCorps, Connecticut Juvenile Justice Alliance, the Witness Project, Public Allies Connecticut and the Regional Youth Adult Social Action Partnership organizations.
The center also provides space and support for the Black Rock Community Council, the Black Rock Homeowners Association and the Parent Leadership Training Institute with over 45,000 community members served annually.
“All of us associated with the Burroughs Community Center are extremely excited by and grateful for the efforts of Governor Malloy and Representative Grogins regarding this initiative,” stated Director of Operations Paul Farina. “The funds will allow BCC to become a greener building by upgrading the heating and air conditioning systems, repairing chimneys and replacing windows, doors and exterior lighting. We welcome the opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint.”

This is all wonderful, Grogins getting jing to maintain the Burroughs Center. How about getting some help getting the illegal firearms off the streets of Bridgeport? There was a shooting earlier today at a Citgo station on Reservoir Avenue. The victim is in critical condition at Saint Vincent’s. And the BPD took a loaded 9-millimeter Glock from a punk hanging around the Mini Rite Market on Bird Street, right across from P.T. And let’s not forget there have been seven homicides in Bridgeport this year and it ain’t even Cinco de Mayo.
