Another Anemic Turnout, Except For Black Rock

The citywide turnout on Tuesday was 11.6 percent, according to elections officials, with 70,322 electors eligible to vote. Of the 8161 voters who filled out a ballot, 1737 of them came from the 130th District powered by the hotly contested race for City Council. That one district–out of 10–comprised 21 percent of the total citywide turnout. Several council districts cratered into single digits.

The turnout in the 130th District proper was 26 percent, by far the highest in the city led by Black Rock School which came close to 40 percent. The 134th District came in next with a turnout of 15 percent, followed by 138th District at 12.5 percent and 135th District 12.3 percent. For pure voter futility the percentage turnout in the 136th District was six percent, in the 137th District it was eight percent. Those districts cover the East Side and The Hollow.

  1. Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen the sec of state give detailed numbers from precinct to precinct in every CT town. Wish this format stays forever, it’s insightful.

  2. *** Time out on politics for a moment. Today ’til 7pm the good people of CT have an opportunity to give back to those who are down on their luck in the basic needs of life. A simple monetary donation (it does not matter how much or how little) to the Bpt Rescue Mission on Fairfield Ave. would go a long way towards helping your fellow brothers and sisters, kids included. Just call 203-333-9422, please! This Mission helps “OTHERS” from all over the State of CT year ’round in many, many ways. Please Call Now! ***

  3. In my district, the 131st (South End), 275 votes … and you would be in like Flynn for a Council Seat. Pathetic. The highest voter getter in the 131st was the woefully inadequate Denese Taylor-Moye, with 271 votes. Brutal.
