“A Disgrace To The City Council” – Councilman Matt McCarthy Calls On Alfredo Castillo To Resign

Alfredo Castillo

Black Rock City Councilman Matt McCarthy is the first to call for the resignation of councilman Alfredo Castillo writing in the OIB comments section:

Alfredo Castillo is a disgrace to the City Council. He needs to step down now. He defrauded the taxpayers of the city of Bridgeport. Wait until the insurance company finds out about his insurance fraud. He is one step away from a colorful jumpsuit.

McCarthy, an accountant by profession, references the $2,000 scalp job Castillo did to city taxpayers by illegally registering several vehicles in Shelton that has a lower tax rate, depriving Bridgeport coffers thousands of dollars, as well as short-changing the insurance company whose rates are generally lower for smaller municipalities.

Black Rock City Councilman Matt McCarthy.

The tax rate on cars in Shelton that features a large grand list of taxable property is 19.18 mills to Bridgeport’s 32.46 which is capped at that number by state law.

When Castillo got caught by a tax assessors review, Castillo registered his five vehicles in Bridgeport as ordered, but missed the deadline to start paying taxes which has accrued interest.

Castillo’s dealing with a plethora of other issues such as captured on video stuffing absentee ballots into drop boxes in the 2023 Democratic primary, arrested for alleged election law violations stemming from 2019 cycle, allegations of abusing curbside voting, shouting at a Fairfield cop during a traffic stop: “Do you know who I am?” and now a new complaint against City Councilman Alfredo Castillo accusing him of prevailing upon a non-citizen to register to vote and casting her absentee ballot.

That’s not all. Multiple sources report that Castillo approached University of Bridgeport President Danielle Wilken during a recent Dem state party fundraiser at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater about the university forging an inappropriate relationship with Bridgeport Labs to benefit him. Bridgeport Labs is a green technology company Castillo claims to represent. Wilkin would not comment for this story.

More than three years ago it was Castillo, as then a Bridgeport Labs board member, who led a proposed land grab of the private university “to create a task force to review and recommend specific strategies to acquire the charter and assets of the University of Bridgeport.”

The City Council rejected the brazen move, citing a conflict of Castillo trying to use his public position for personal gain.

Councilman McCarthy summed it up quite nicely during public discussion: “The city of Bridgeport has no business running a university.”

          1. Lennie, or The Port, Paugusessett, and an unknown entity partnership Resort casino. 🙂

Paugusessett stake is what would be paid in state and federal taxes that benefit otherwise

The Port stake is the property tax on the resort of its grand tax list and a 10% revenue for a fund of beatification of the Port. Because we know how shot-sided y’all gangster attitude can be by selling out the Port. Just look at the mountain of garbage that cost the Port Seaside Park in value land.

Thus. the unknown entity/banker/backer/operator with the remaining stake/vision. 😎

This guy — Castillo — is a pure, untreated, political and “businessman” (extortionist) sewage — a real POS trying to extort our university and rob our taxpayers while breaking other election and other civil laws. He needs to be flushed, now, with others circling the bowl behind him…

Will Mayor Ganim back Councilman McCarthy in doing the right thing by calling for resignations and helping to cleanse the Council and restore its reputation in time for the BIG, upcoming election?!

It wouldn’t be contraindicated, as a vote in support of the state’s largest city, for Governor Lamont to chime in for the removal of the Council contaminants — Castillo and Martinez — from the Bridgeport CC. (How about the rest of the CC backing McCarthy in a cathartic movement to expel the excrement contaminating its ranks?! Council President Nieves?!)
