Appearing on Face the State hosted by Dennis House, Connecticut’s popular Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman took a pragmatic political position when asked about her support for Bridgeport mayor: let’s wait for the Democratic endorsed candidate.
That will come in July when the Democratic Town Committee chooses between Mayor Bill Finch and Joe Ganim who occupied the mayor’s seat for nearly 12 years. Finch would appear to have a leg up in that area, but some pols say Ganim’s within striking distance too of the magic 46 votes needed for the endorsement. Finch’s 2011 primary opponent Mary-Jane Foster, school board member Howard Gardner and East End town committee member Charlie Coviello are also in the race.
Finch appeared on House’s show a few months ago suggesting Ganim should not be allowed to seek office following his conviction on corruption charges in 2003. House asked Wyman about her opinion of Finch’s declaration.
“I’m not getting in the middle of that,” she said with a smile.
Governor Dan Malloy and Wyman in recent months have emphasized around the state a second-chance society initiative, particularly for non-violent offenders.
Finch believes in second chances too, with a caveat for public corruption offenders.
Nancy Wyman makes a poor guest. Getting in the middle of things is what we do around here. I like Mayor Finch because he made the choices that kept Bridgeport solvent and has a strategy to enhance its image. No mayor likes to raise taxes but Finch upheld his oath during our worst recession and now has major upstream development underway. He brings a brand of thunder that’s all his own.

I am not being sarcastic here. I listened to the video and I must have blacked out. I did not hear one comment about Joe Ganim. I also agree with Local Eyes, I thought Nancy Wyman was a weak guest.
Lennie, I read your post and wasted 11 minutes this morning to hear her comments regarding Finch and Ganim. I just wasted another 11 minutes to see if I in fact had a brain fart. I did not. The interview posted had nothing to do with your post on Ganim and I am surprised. 22 minutes is a waste of time, no?

That’s a pretty cold shoulder from someone who Finch busted his ass to get reelected. I hope Finch can read between the lines. The governor is saying he won’t endorse if the party won’t. That gives Ganim and whomever else reason to work twice as hard to deny the nomination.

Bob Walsh, I got the same impression. Not even a kind word. Shameful. However, I am certain Dan Malloy will be kinder to Finch. But let’s remember, karma is weird. Finch is accused of holding grudges and yet the Mayor supported Ned Lamont. Hmmmmmm.
Who in hell cares about what Wyman had to say? She is nothing but a political flat washer.
