From Mark Pazniokas, CT Mirror:
The announcement comes less than a week after The Mirror reported that tribal leaders and their lobbyists jointly met with Senate leaders to gauge support for expanding gambling to preserve Connecticut’s share of casino jobs and revenue.
Meanwhile, the legislature’s Public Safety and Security Committee intends to hold a public hearing next week on a casino expansion bill that would authorize up to three new facilities, said Rep. Stephen D. Dargan, D-West Haven, the co-chairman of the committee.
“It’s basically a framework,” Dargan said. “For the time being we’re looking at three. One in Bridgeport, one in Danbury, and one in the Hartford-Enfield corridor, understanding that as we go forward we might end up with just one, if anything gets passed.”
Full story here.
Gambling is almost dead in Connecticut and NOW the Indians want to expand it in Connecticut. Things have gotten so bad for them they are now offering $1 blackjack. I am against the casino in Bridgeport, they are 30 years too late.
I agree, Andy, just like Jai Alai, it would be so typical of Bridgeport to build a casino, perhaps on Steelepointe, to have it boarded up a year later and made into public housing. Gambling is a dead issue in Bridgeport so if any politician is going to use that as their platform, think again!
The last time we were lumped into a three-way deal that involved Hartford and another city, we became a study while Hartford went on to have “Adrian’s Landing.” If Bridgeport isn’t the first to get funded, we will again be taken out of the equation. This is where your State Reps and Senators can show what influence they have in Hartford. Let’s not judge them only on the Conflict Bill, or better yet, LET’S.

Connecticut has a population of 3,596,677 and we have two very large casinos. Massachusetts has casinos and JF lists 20 in New York. Where will the gamblers come from? Too little too late.
Ditto.
