From city Communications Director Brett Broesder:
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne Klein today announced $9,555,585 in loans for the creation or rehabilitation of affordable housing units in small multifamily rental and homeownership developments across the state. Among the developments awarded were Bishop Place and Seaview Apartments, located in Bridgeport’s East End neighborhood. DOH will provide approximately $1.4 million in funding to Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust to assist in the redevelopment of four multifamily apartment buildings. In response, Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch made the following statement:“Bridgeport is getting better every day by creating jobs, growing our economy, building new parks and schools, and developing high-quality housing options for residents. We’re also making our city more business and family friendly by revitalizing run-down properties, and Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust will be doing exactly that at these locations. It’s great news for Bridgeport, and we thank Gov. Malloy and Commissioner Klein for their continued commitment to improving our state’s largest city.”
And, Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust (BNT) Executive Director Elizabeth Torres made the following statement:
“BNT working with the City and the East End Neighborhood Revitalization Zone (NRZ) has been working for over a year to bring back the Stratford Avenue corridor. This funding along with a previous allocation announced last April will assist us with developing five buildings, providing 59 affordable housing units and 10,000 sq. ft retail/commercial space in this neighborhood.”
This is a real gift to the Stratford Avenue corridor. It is good projects are happening all over the city and not just downtown and Steelepointe. I am certain the residents in those areas especially taxpaying homeowners are pleased to see positive movement in their neighborhoods. Next I expect to see a grocery store.
Speaking about Stew Leonard’s, wouldn’t that be a great destination attraction for Steelepointe? Now I expect that announcement to be made in March with groundbreaking in August. Wouldn’t that be an addition and an incentive to start the housing and hotel?
Is this a rumor, Steve?
