After a revue of several venues, officials say President Obama will campaign for Governor Dan Malloy on Sunday at approximately 3:30 p.m. at Central High School auditorium. About 1,800 people will be allowed in according to Fire Chief Brian Rooney, a figure determined by the Secret Service.

Many local political operatives had hoped for a larger venue such as the Webster Bank Arena, but the Sound Tigers will play a match at 3 p.m. Sunday and officials could not work around the event. Outside venues were also considered but weather could play a factor this weekend.

Obama had postponed a visit to Central High School on October 15 to address the Ebola crisis.

Awaiting word about when and where tickets to the event will be distributed.

  1. Even Obama who I respect could not make me vote for Dan Malloy again!!! Just goes to show you how bad Malloy has been for this state. This will be my first time voting for a Republican at the head of a ticket. For years we minorities have given the Democrat party our votes without earning them, that has to stop.

  2. Lennie, there are 200 fewer tickets this time. Union members and officials, elected officials, Democratic candidates for office, security personnel, etc, etc, will take a chunk of the tickets and space. So much for the 14,000-plus people who were suckered by the October 15, 2014 POTUS visit scam.

  3. I’m glad The President rescheduled his visit to Bridgeport, it speaks of our importance in this electoral process, a proud moment for Bridgeport, a city that will be able to boast about two visits by sitting President Barack Obama.

  4. The President of the United Sates of America is gracing Bridgeport with his presence and the sound tigers hockey game prevents use of the city-owned arena? Sure.

I can see the front page of the Connecticut Post Monday morning. In the background behind Obama will be McCarthy and other city council members and a sea of green-shirt government employee union members. Hopefully, Steve Auerbach will be allowed to get in the photo to make up for Malloy’s people not delivering a lawn sign.

  5. SHU has the $17.5 million William H. Pitt Health and Recreation Center featuring a 2300-seat arena. That does not include floor seating. I would think they could easily fit 3300 up there. Did the city even consider this or is there too much ego involved?

    1. Sacred Heart likes to say they are located in Fairfield. Since the visit is sponsored by the candidates, I wonder how much each campaign kicked in. Thanks to government subsidies of elections, I’m sure this has to be itemized in the treasurer reports.

  6. Bob, SHU is in Fairfield and Malloy and Finch would feel a little out of place. When Finch yells out, welcome back to Bridgeport, Mr. President! And the President yells back, you’re in Fairfield, you dumb fuck!

  7. The reason it is not at SHU is because no way is the town of Fairfield going to foot the bill for police OT. Bridgeport is the only city in CT that would do that.

  8. And have you noticed no one has come up with the answer to how much the city paid to freshen up Central nor what the bill will be for the taxpayers for the visit?
How can anyone make an informed decision if the Mayor will not release the necessary information?
Maybe Rick Torres can be doing more of this nuts and bolts council work instead of advertising his provocative tattoos.

  9. Bob, what about all the cost for the visit that was postponed? Someone mentioned not all the candidates were willing to invest in the visit and that is why the tickets from the aborted visit will not be honored. Has anyone asked where they are handing out the tickets for this visit?

  10. Hector,
NONE of the candidates are contributing to the cost of the political rally. Bill Finch, all by himself, declared the city will foot the bill and not seek reimbursement from any campaign.

  11. I want to know what happened to the 200 tickets that won’t be distributed because seating shrank over the last two weeks.
Or is it the city is getting these tickets to give out for paying for the rally???

  12. I called Michelle Obama and I told her to drop my tickets off at my house on her way over to New Haven, and if I’m not home to leave them in the mailbox. She wanted to know if I also wanted any of her chocolate chip cookies. I said sure. Hey! She is the First Lady.

  13. I hear over 2,000 packed Wilbur Cross gym with another 800 in an overflow auditorium. And the best Bridgeport can do for her husband the President is 1,800?
Another embarrassment for Finch, Testa and McCarthy.
