In Closing Days, Foley Bails On Debate

From Chris Keating, Hartford Courant:

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and petitioning candidate Joseph Visconti squared off in a debate Thursday night, but one of the issues was the person who was not there–Republican Tom Foley.

Foley declined to participate in the debate at NBC30 in West Hartford. The host, Gerry Brooks, said that Foley’s campaign “never articulated a particular objection to tonight’s format.”

But Foley’s campaign spokesman said the campaign had been “unable to come to terms” on the debate.

Malloy immediately said that he wished that Foley had been present, referring to the journalists.

“We’ve got great questioners,” Malloy said. “It’s a strange thing. I also think it’s disrespectful. … He’s not here. It’s a missed opportunity.”

  1. I am certain Foley supporters who need their lips surgically removed from Foley’s ass think it was a positively brilliant move to not show up for the debate. The rest of us are a little dumbfounded.

  2. That was great TV. Loved Malloy asking people to vote for Visconti if they could not vote for him. Who did not see that coming? The shocker was Visconti announcing if elected Pelto would head the state education department, that I did not see coming.
