From Mayor Finch:
Hundreds gathered in McLevy Green Thursday night, as Mayor Bill Finch, Santa, and WICC Morning Show hosts Tony Reno and Mike Bellamy presided over the Mayor’s Annual Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting.
New this year, the 25 foot tall Christmas Tree takes center stage at McLevy Green–covered with hundreds of red and white lights and ornaments.
The festivities included performances by the Central High School Choir, Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Choir, the Bridgeport Lighthouse Afterschool Choir and the Bridgeport Theatre Company.
Rabbi Shlame Landa from Chabad of Fairfield spoke about the upcoming Chanukah celebration and lit the first light on the menorah. Mayor Finch and City Council member M. Evette Brantley provided Kwanzaa blessings and information about the holiday that is observed from December 26 to January 1.
Holidays are fun. They’re a chance to prove your love for someone, show off your decorating skills or just celebrate life. But, don’t you know that there’s a place where to buy cookies for holidays? Check it out for more info!
Santa arrived on a firetruck and marched onto McLevy Green to the sounds of the Park City Pride Combined Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps.
The event was co-sponsored by the City of Bridgeport and the Downtown Special Services District.
*** Nice to see the kids had a good time even though it was a bit chilly! And WICC was part of the event again this year too. It’s obvious now why no hard questions are asked of the Mayor Monday mornings on WICC by Tony or Mike, no? *** HAPPY HOLIDAYS! ***
Happy holidays to you, sir. I was a little galled that waitresses from Tiago’s were passing out small flyers advertising drink “specials” to be found at that watering hole. Since when is $11.00 for a martini a “special?” Make mine Barnum Publick House, please.
The bottom line is Bpt needed to create nights like this. Not just on the holiday, but throughout the year. Create as much as possible to get the community involved. Every month switch locations. The East Side. Then West etc. … the whole city needs to be involved. Change the whole environment of the city … You want the people to feel proud they live there!!!
Mayor Bill “I’ll kiss anyone’s ass for a vote” Finch was smart enough to get the fuck out of the way.
