Run Forrest … run! No, run governor … run! State media outlets are trying to rope Governor Dannel Malloy into the Ernie Newton endorsement question. So far the governor isn’t biting. It’s a local issue, the people of Bridgeport should decide it, he says. That’s a pragmatic place to be. But pols will try to drag Malloy into this race. “We need you, we want you, we love you (translation: you owe us), take a side against Ernie or take a side for us.” The governor should heed the advice of Jenny. Run, governor … Run! As fast as you can and as far away. This primary is going to be a bloodbath.
State Rep. Andres Ayala, who’s challenging the endorsed Newton in an Aug. 14 Democratic primary, supported Malloy over Ned Lamont in the 2010 primary for governor. A number of Ayala supporters including former Democratic Town Chair John Stafstrom are Malloy supporters. But you can look into the camps of Ernie Newton and incumbent State Senator Ed Gomes and find Malloy supporters. Wouldn’t Malloy show leadership by taking a stand for a candidate or against Newton’s run? In the end what does that accomplish? In this kind of race with passions running high all he’d do is piss off a collection of political scorekeepers. Whoever wins the primary, Gomes, Newton, Ayala, will be a State Senator come November. Better for Malloy to stay out of it.
Governor? Hell, what about the U.S. senate hopefuls? They are actually on the Democratic primary ballot with these guys. Governor doesn’t have to run for awhile.
No, before we worry about governors, Ed Gomes has a couple decisions to make.
First, is he really up to this campaign? If he decides he is healthy enough, how does he put his support together? This primary will physically test a healthy person let alone a guy who is 76 and has had health problems. And he probably has to deal with all the rats in Bridgeport Democratic Party politics who figure he’s an old man and should get out of the way.
Second, if Ed decides to hang it up, who does he support? Or, to put it another way, who does he dislike more? Ayala and the mayor, or Ernie and whoever?
The organization appears split here, which dilutes the mayor’s ability to influence the primary. Finch’s influence would be strongest in a three-way.
This is marvelous. The smorgasbord of interests make a fat diet for a political reporter to write about.
Anybody have an idea how that Stratford vote breaks out in this district? Is it an add-on to the Ford op?
And to think, SANTA IS IN CHARGE!!!
Interesting point about Stratford. Moses has Alvin O’Neal’s support there. Yes, a Ford add-on.
How many votes in Stratford?
How many votes in that senatorial district period/likely voter/ethnic breakout.
The East Side is the heart of the district and the heart of Ayala’s presumed base. It is also Grand Central Station for AB games.
If this devolves into a black/brown thing, where does the white community stand? How do we break out the Finch/anti-Finch, pro-Stafstrom, pro-Mario? Where are the votes above Boston Avenue, and does Mitch have any influence east of Park Avenue and north of Fairfield/Wood avenues?
Great stuff.
Here we go again, nominating the same people over and over again. It does not matter if you screwed up big time (Santa) or if you have done nothing in the position you were elected to. Note our State Reps except Grogins did absolutely nothing. They will all be reelected again by the dumb asses who call themselves voters.
From the bottom of my heart I want to thank the voters in the 138th for not electing me to office. I could not and would not have been able to deal with these dumb asses on the council. We will never move forward without term limits.
This latest round of nominations by the dumb asses on the DTC has doomed us to more failures and ridicule.

Malloy: “Wait a minute, you said a tornado came to Steel Point and removed all the buildings and people and only you and the other Munchkins survived?”
“But you have no conception where Dorothy and Toto are?”
“But you want to run for State Senate?”
OFF TOPIC: There is a seatbelt sting set up on Brooklawn Avenue from the corner of Villa ’til Laurel Place. There must be four police cars over there, and I saw at least five of Bridgeport’s Finest with whistles a-blowing. It’s 4:00 PM on a Wednesday afternoon and I asked “What’s up, officers?” while walking my dog. They said “Click It or Ticket, we have never set up here before and we are doing really well.” My response was “Is that how you guys look at it?” Really? What about an illegal handgun sting on Maplewood, just for kicks?
