Hallelujah! At Steelpointe Harbor A Marriott Rises In Hotel Desert, Transforming East Side’s Waterfront

Along the Steelpointe Harbor waterfront, adjacent to the luxury-unit, amenity-filled apartment complex The August, the Residence Inn by Marriott rises, a much-needed hospitality development in essentially a hotel desert in Connecticut’s most populous community, that will feature 142 guestrooms, ground-floor amenity spaces, and an exterior sports court, and with cooperating weather anticipates an opening the back end of 2027.

The project is led by KBE Building Corporation in partnership with hospitality leader True North Hotel Group.

Steelpointe Harbor is the vision of Miami developers Robert Christoph Sr. and Robert Christoph Jr.  who’ve invested heavily in Bridgeport. Now, when was the last time you heard those two cities named in the same sentence?

For the Bridgeport business community, hospitals, colleges, concert goers at the city-owned amphitheater, it cannot come soon enough.

A few years ago The Holiday Inn was converted into market-rate housing then sold to a local non-profit for what is undergoing transformation into affordable housing units.

“KBE is proud to continue our work at Steelpointe Harbor and help bring this exciting waterfront hospitality destination to life,” says Michael Kolakowski, president and CEO of KBE Building Corporation. “The Residence Inn will play an important role in supporting Bridgeport’s growth, welcoming visitors to the city, and advancing the broader vision for a vibrant and accessible waterfront community.”

Full disclosure: I reside at The August, Steelpointe Harbor, and I love it.

It’s luxury housing with 40 percent of the units subsidized by the state under The Build For Connecticut Program. So, you can enjoy the luxury lifestyle, without the luxury cost. Here’s the scenario for a two-income household. A luxury unit for $1,200 each, 900 square-foot apartment with the following amenities all included in price point: in-unit laundry, GE appliances, marble-top kitchen table, free, secure gated parking, internet, insurance, trash service, fitness center, sauna, swimming pool, grill stations to entertain, pizza oven, waterfront business center, pet friendly, waterfront boardwalk for walking, jogging.

The August, Steelpointe Harbor.

There’s nothing like this along the gold coast of Fairfield County, located in Bridgeport. I’ve been here four months. My electric bill has averaged $60 per month. The tenancy here eclectic demographically, some from Bridgeport, some from the suburbs.

And, you cannot beat the view. Plus, Frenchie’s coffee bar on first floor. Best sandwiches in the city. Free coffee for tenants.

A stream of new tenants each week. Get in while you can!

Pool, hot tub just some of the amenities at The August
Frenchies coffee bar at your service. Free coffee for tenants.

  1. Lennie,
I’m personally happy that you are happy as a resident of a slice of beautiful downtown Bridgeport that bears your blessing as affordable.
But what have you cared, on OIB for the years when both Fair Housing and Fair Rent Commissions were ignored with nominations for new qualified members and their citizen voluteer representation died too.
Each mayor could have established a training program for citizens willing to serve their neighbors, without compensation, and sit at tables where oversight, responsibility, and care practiced within the law.
Instead we have had waves of foreclosures, sometimes evictions, homelessness, and the residents of Success Village (nor other coops or condos) have had a municipal commission to assist them when their project was sidetracked.
You were enjoying the woodlands of Redding and it was of no concern to you apparently. Where do you find a robust board or commission if or when you do not wish to retain private counsel to represent you? You currently have thousands of fellow renters who have felt bereft and affordability changes with each lease agreement. Of course, were you to find yourself with a serious problem, you would know where to go. Please consider the neighbors, fellow renters, who have not curried your relationships through the years. Time will tell.

  2. Damn, John. Kind a harsh on the Lennie. 🤣

Is the host of the best ESL class, blessing of affordability, with a slice of beautiful downtown Bridgeport. Any difference between having the blessing of affordability to living in Bridgeport, Black Rock, by the sea? BAM! 🙂

But I feel ya, John, your concern for the Joblessness, evictions, homelessness, neighbors. vie “commission”

In the spirit of the blessings of affordability, work, a place called home, to rest your head.

Though I think, the Lennie, would prefer you just said, Thank You. 🙂
