Thursday afternoon state and city officials, including Governor Ned Lamont and Mayor Joe Ganim grooved to the opening of The August at Steelpointe Harbor, a transformational waterfront project at the nexus of East Side, East End and Downtown, 160 of the 420 market rate units subsidized by the state for middle income renters under the Build For Connecticut Program.
That means a substantial savings from the market rate price for qualified incomes.

The waterfront project is the vision of Robert Christoph Sr. and Jr. who relocated their Florida development headquarters to Bridgeport
The Christophs partnered with Midwest-based developer Flaherty & Collins to construct the units. Company executive Ryan Cronk noted the initial challenges to put the financing together but now he added, ” People are now calling us about how to invest in Bridgeport.”
Project officials say construction awarded more than $41.8 million in contracts to minority, women, and small business enterprises, surpassing the project’s diversity contracting requirements. The development also supported local hiring, apprenticeship opportunities, and employment for members of the re-entry community.
The grand opening represents another major step in the continued transformation of Bridgeport’s waterfront. The Steelpointe Harbor master plan calls for approximately 1,500 residences, along with restaurants, retail, a commercial marina, hospitality, public amenities, and other waterfront uses.
The August is located on a Steelpointe peninsula between the Yellow Mill Channel and the Pequonnock River with the Long Island Sound on its southern edge and I-95 and the city’s East Side to the north. It is an ideal location on Long Island Sound, positioned about an hour to Port Jefferson Long Island on the ferry and about an hour to New York City via Interstate-95 or the Metro North Railroad. The development is designed as a walkable, mixed-use community near Bridgeport’s commuter rail station, sports arena, and amphitheater.
