Senator Sujata Announces Re-election Run, Highlights District Funding Wins

August 2024, Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox celebrates primary win in her Bridgeport headquarters.

In 2024, Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox filled the void left by a retiring Marilyn Moore, defeating a field of Bridgeport candidates in a summer Democratic primary to capture Connecticut’s 22nd Senatorial encompassing Bridgeport, Trumbull and Monroe on her way to a general election win.

The freshman legislator on Tuesday announced her bid for another two-year term.

News release:

State Senator Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox today announced her re-election campaign for Connecticut’s 22nd Senate District, highlighting her record of delivering $586 million in new funding for Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Monroe. This included investments in a new community healthcare center, a special education center, and a veterans and first responders center.

“I promised new leadership and a new vision—and I worked hard to deliver,” said Gadkar-Wilcox. In 2025, she also delivered state-wide funding with $130 million for special education to support families and provide local taxpayer relief. She voted for a $500 million allocation to protect residents from federal cuts to SNAP, healthcare, and home heating assistance. She voted to reduce electric bills for Connecticut consumers by $800 million over the next three years.

The campaign will focus on local issues that matter most to residents of the 22nd District. “I’m looking forward to knocking on doors and continuing to have genuine conversations with every voter who wants to be heard,” she said. “The funding I brought back to the district came directly from listening to people and understanding what our communities truly need. I will continue to fight for our community, attend events, and be there for you. That is why you elected me. It is an honor to serve you.”

The campaign is participating in Connecticut’s Citizens’ Election Program. Supporters can learn more or contribute at SujataCT.com.

A resident of the district for over 20 years, Gadkar-Wilcox made history in 2024 as the first Indian State Senator in Connecticut and the first South Asian woman in the chamber. She is a Professor of Legal Studies at Quinnipiac University, Executive Director of the Oxford Consortium for Human Rights, and a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar.

  1. Speedy, I say that because a state rep posted progress in the Port, i.e., a monstrous eyesore green energy (you got to love the words people). Yet you have a mayoral candidate going on about tearing down Port’s iconic smokestack. There’s nothing beautiful about it. 🙂

That NuPower thermal loop looks like someone took a hot, steamy dump. 🤣

To be fair, they say beauty is in the eye ofthe beholder. Drive south on 95 into Fairfield, and tell me what you see, people? Whose words are more fitting? It is a Green future or a hot, steamy dump. 🤣

  2. We are politically blessed with Senator Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox announcing her run for re-election this year.
I will suggest she stay focused on resident need for quality housing alternatives at fair monthly expense including energy costs.
At the moment Bridgeport as the largest City does not have a Fair Housing Commission thought it did so 20 years ago along with a Fair Rent Commission. Perhaps “fairness” was the target, but a series of administrations found no energy to fine fair minded neighbors to serve such Commissions. Until three years ago when the City Council acted on their own to re-create the current Fair Rent Commission and provided staff funding, though such position has changed hands twice already and is vacant today.
It seems to me that members of urban Boards and Commissions are responsible to respond to questions, complaints, and current governance issues. However, when those are resolved, the members should simply and fairly instruct citizens on less immediate sheltering issues, so that elderly owners, or renters ready to make a downpayment to own property secure knowledge and info that is value to their wealth building efforts, and help avoid errors or remain partially uninformed about the variety of obligations faced.
Casual Civics Conversations continue at three locations most Saturdays in the City and by the end of March will be established in several additional locations in other Districts. Oversight by the people locally is required for good governance! Time will tell.

    1. Perhaps, John, that is because Breath of Fresh Air Gen Now AKA “disingenuous” is too busy fighting fascism and the continuities of exploitation of people/ ie illgal undocumantati immigratnts who pay into a system that they can’t benefit from. JS 🙂

Nobody/politicians really give a shit. I mean, Gen Now is building housing for more affluent people to take a getaway from their permanent housing, at a premium price, perhaps a show, pricks 🙂

Everybody is going on about the need for more housing, and I just read an article about a rental property ( The Old Stop and Shop on Madison Ave) for people who have too much stuff.

To be fair, I am sure there’s some movement on the matter, I would think. JS

Try to play nice people 🙂

Do you never get exhausted from fighting ‘fake enemies’ like Gen Now? If you use the term ‘disingenuous’ you are accusing them of faking it, having secret motives, or being insincere. Is that correct or have you so confused some of us routinely?
My facts do not indicate that Gen Now is building ‘housing’ unless you talk about a person investing in developing a real estate site for a boutique hotel. Is it the pricing of the project, which you reference for affluent, whatever that means to you reference the largest City in the State without lodging services by a major hotel chain for several years; and with only private funding announced to the public? Are you envious and therefore resort to ‘phallic’ imagery?
And then you delve into real estate development once again, but take up the George Carlin message of too much stuff!! Finally you mention ‘fairness’ and close with ‘play nice people.’ If you do not mean it when you say it, isn’t that hypocrisy on your part, and disingenuous? Time will tell.

    1. Do you never get exhausted from fighting ‘fake enemies’ like Gen Now?

Do you ever get exhausted from speaking at CC meetings? Do you consider the CC members your enemies, and genuine as you address your concerns?

I use the term “disingenuous” for the rooftop bar, the Port political group at face value. I wouldn’t say secret or insincere per se, just more political self-serving than people’s concerns.

I mean, from my understanding, Mama Bear, LV is not from the Port. Who burst on the Port’s political scene in 2015, funded by Big Daddy Money? Yet they are the ones teh People need to entrust to unrig Port’s political system under the reign of Mario that has been going on for 33 to 40 years. Suspicious, to say the least.

(My facts do not indicate that Gen Now is building ‘housing’ unless you talk about a person investing in developing a real estate site for a boutique hotel.)

I believe your facts are correct. Temporary housing for those less in need, while they take in a show. 🙂

( Is it the pricing of the project that you reference for the affluent?)

The temporary housing/ boutique hotel is not for those neighbors in need in support of shelter.

(Whatever that means to you, reference the largest City in the State without lodging services by a major hotel chain for several years, and with only private funding announced to the public? Are you envious and therefore resort to ‘phallic’ imagery?)

I take no issue with their private investment to supply a service to those who are less in need. Though when an affluent private investor comes into Port, creates a political organization funded by Big Daddy’s private money, questions could be asked and an opinion formed of the genuineness, no?

Noting envious about that, though not sure of the ‘phallic” imagery you are referring to. I’m still trying to decode it.

(And then you delve into real estate development once again, but take up the George Carlin message of too much stuff!!)

I delved into housing development because, in case you are not “informed,” there has been some talk about the lack of housing and its affordability for your “neighbors, “ whose concerns are not finding temporary housing while they take in a show.

As for Carlin, it was an irony, a satire about the housing being built on the Old Stop and Shop to house stuff for people who have too much stuff. 🙂

(Finally, you mention ‘fairness’ and close with ‘play nice people.’ If you do not mean it when you say it, isn’t that hypocrisy on your part, and disingenuous? Time will tell.)

Perhaps it is hypocrisy and disingenuous to say something you don’t mean. But I am playing nice with Breath of Fresh Air. You are an Yale educated man, I am sure you can understand. 🙂

      1. I get the referrance it was aimed at Sound on Sound, hence the video of Hozier

Considering they promoted the Foo Fighters one year, and the Foo Fighters had to cancel it. The following they rebook the Hoziers to heal line, which ended up with the entire festival being cancelled. Only to have the Foo Fighters play at Toad’s Place the same week. 🙂

        Pricks;

Well, people, the Port may or may not get an MLS team/stadium, but at least we will always have the thermal Deuce, visible for 95. 🤣

  4. Nearly two years ago, I publicly endorsed Sujata because I believed she would show up for Bridgeport and our district. She has more than lived up to that. Sen. Gadkar Wilcox has been a breath of fresh air, bringing real energy, integrity, and responsiveness to this role. She shows up, she listens, and she answers when Bridgeport calls. She has represented Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Monroe with steady leadership and a clear commitment to the people she serves. We are truly fortunate to have her as our State Senator.

    1. Hey Doc, didn’t I see you waving a Bill Finch for Senate sign? You sure you’re not the one who decapitated Speedy on the entrance to Mountain Grove Cemetary? By the look of the job done, the culprit had surgical skills. I guess we can all agree that
Sen. Gadkar Wilcox is just what the doctor ordered.

  5. Hey Joel, I’m sorry to disappoint, but I’m an EdD, not an MD. However, like a surgeon, I do precision work on problems in policy & systems, and I get to the root fast. I might’ve missed my calling as a dentist🤔😝
