Watch: Groundbreaking For More South End Housing, Resilience Project

City and state stakeholders on Monday broke ground on Windward Apartments Phase II in the South End with 51 units of housing, as well as flood control mitigation in the neighborhood. Rents will range from $600 to $2,000 for a projected 2027 opening.

From Mayor’s Office:

The start of two significant Bridgeport projects: the construction of the Winward Apartments Phase II and the launch of Rebuild by Design’s revitalization efforts. The event is hosted by project developers: the CT Department of Housing, Park City Communities and JHM Group. Phase II of the Winward apartments will include four new buildings that will house 51 new units of high-end affordable living. The Rebuild by Design project is part of the Resilient Bridgeport initiative for the low-lying South End neighborhood that is exposed to sea level rise and storm surge. This project includes elevating Johnson Street, building a new 2.5- acre stormwater park to provide protection for one of Connecticut’s most vulnerable communities in South Bridgeport from loss and risk associated with repeated coastal flooding and create resilient infrastructure at the same time.
