‘Dream Big’ Mural Comes To Life At Greene Homes Public Housing

From Park City Communities:

Park City Communities, in partnership with the City of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Arts and Cultural Council, is proud to announce the creation of a vibrant public mural at the Charles F. Greene Homes. This exciting project is part of the broader Choice Neighborhoods Planning Initiative; a two-year collaborative effort funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to redevelop and revitalize the Greene Homes community.

The mural project is a key element in building community identity and fostering resident engagement during the planning process for the Greene Homes Transformation Plan. By incorporating public art into this effort, the initiative reflects a deep commitment to neighborhood pride, cultural expression, and placemaking. The artwork of the mural was designed by Greene Home residents.

“This mural is more than just paint on a wall, it’s a reflection of the hopes and visions of the Greene Homes community,” said Jillian Baldwin, CEO of the housing authority.  “It symbolizes the beginning of real transformation and the power of creativity to inspire change.”

The Bridgeport Arts and Cultural Council is leading the mural development with support from local artists and community input. Their work is sponsored through a Park City Urban Beautification Project grant, which promotes creative and sustainable approaches to enhancing public spaces throughout Bridgeport.

The Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) is a signature HUD program that supports locally driven strategies to transform distressed neighborhoods and public housing into vibrant, mixed-income communities. Through the planning grant, Park City Communities and its partners are engaging residents, local organizations, and city leaders to co-create a comprehensive Transformation Plan that addresses housing, people, and neighborhood priorities.

“This mural is a visual commitment to the community’s future,” said Mayor Ganim. “It marks the start of long-term investment in the lives of Greene Homes residents.”
