Early Vote Steady In Bridgeport

One week from next Tuesday’s vote count, more than 7,000 city voters have cast early ballots among roughly 70,000 registered electors, according to election officials, most of them walk-in votes at the Margaret Morton Government Center, a percentage enthusiasm that runs roughly equal among Democrats, Republicans and unaffiliated.

More than 5,800 voters have taken advantage of the first-time early voting for a presidential election. Roughly 1,700 have cast ballots via absentee. The combined numbers will likely reach 10,000 early votes by Election Day, Nov. 5.

Presidential elections in the modern history of voting by far generate the most activity in Bridgeport, dwarfing turnout in municipal and gubernatorial cycles.

This cycle also includes races for U.S. Senate, Congress and state legislature.
