Gomes Supporter Fined $1,000 For Falsifying Address To Run For City Council

The State Elections Enforcement Commission (see video above) has levied a $1,000 penalty against John Gomes’ mayoral supporter Harry Carrillo for falsifying an address to run for City Council in the 139th District.

City Councilwoman Eneida Martinez and Silvia Ramos assert in complaints filed last August with the state agency Carrillo fraudulently listed his address as 1845 Central Avenue where Ramos resides instead of 33 Boston Terrace which places him outside the 139th Council District.

In the consent order approved by the commission Wednesday, Carrillo has agreed to pay a $1,000 penalty.

Last August Gomes told News 12 “Nothing has been done wrong.” See News 12 coverage from August here

In the complaint to the election watchdog Ramos declares, “Harry Carrillo is using my address at 1845 Central Avenue …Harry does not live at this address.”

Carrillo had been part of a slate of candidates running with Gomes. Carrillo had altered his voting address from an adjacent district  to reflect residency on Central Avenue, across the street from the former Harding High School. After the complaint was filed Carrillo subsequently withdrew his candidacy.

The complaints disclose that Ramos is a Section 8 recipient who is concerned that Carrillo using her address could jeopardize her “housing status.”

Falsifying an address to run for public office is a violation of state law.

East End political operatives visited the Central Avenue location to inquire about Carrillo’s residency. Ramos confirmed he is using the address fraudulently.

The East End District is represented by Martinez and Ernie Newton.
