Mayor Joe Ganim and Fire Chief Lance Edwards announced on Wednesday a tentative contract agreement with the union representing city firefighters. The contract requires approval from union members before going to the City Council
From Andy Tsubassa Field, CT Post:
The proposed five-year deal includes a 12.75 percent wage increase, according to the mayor’s office. It also includes a rollback of premium cost shares for employees hired after the beginning of 2011. Those costs were previously capped at 50 percent, but under the proposed agreement, the cost shares would drop to 25 percent at first, increasing every year until capping at 33.3 percent.
“I think most people understand neither side is going to get everything they want,” Ganim said, adding that he feels the tentative agreement is “fair for both sides.”
Dave Dobbs, the firefighters union president, said the premium cost share under the previous agreement was too expensive for employees.
