Wanted: Tax Assessor In Reval Year (Gulp)

In this Covid-cruel world the city’s in search of a tax assessor to implement the revaluation of taxable property next year. The last reval year, Joe Ganim’s return to office in 2016, was noisy, particularly in Black Rock, the highest assessed neighborhood in the city.

Every five years, by state mandate, Connecticut municipalities must undergo revaluation. Who knows what to expect in this health emergency. Will the city ask Governor Ned Lamont and the state legislature to delay it until things settle down?

Flatto says an experienced assessor Bill Gaffney is working part time to fill the void and manage the revaluation while search continues to hire a full-time employee.
