Gee Lennie,
Harold Hill was a “masterful con man” with a great storyline. Bill Finch is a “spinner of tall tales” about how taxpayer money is spent, and the City is having trouble seeing his vision. Now we know we have a problem in River City (you pick the river) but the problem is not a game played on a table, it’s school, and it rhymes with pool, and though we need to “bridge” the achievement gap, he can “fridge” the taxable tap.
It will take money, and that’s kind of funny, ’cause Mayor Finch is flush with using “slush” money in line items all over the budget for years. And you can just “hush, honey” because it’s not nice to hold the proof of his expertise with a budget form, by hiding the 12th-month report.
We really do need some money for the genuine Music Man (Paul Vallas who loves what he is doing for the youth and public of Bridgeport with gusto and expertise). It’s only $7 Million more than we spent last year. And if we give up the ghost line items, and there are more than 76 of these, we can put the show on. The other $17 million he has asked for … perhaps he should practice blowing into one of those trombones??? Or provide detail on the Pension Plan increases he has secretly worked out with the State?
Bridgeport is less trusting than River City was. After four years of flatline for school bells, do we really want what Bill sells? How does “slush smell?” Only time will tell.
