She beat the boys from Bridgeport in a Democratic primary then won the general election against Republican Chris Carrena to fill the seat of a retiring State Senator Marilyn Moore. Throughout her path in the Bridgeport, Trumbull, Monroe 22nd District she was quick to embrace her supporters.
She will receive the oath of office in January.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am so appreciative of the outpouring of support after the election, and especially before the election from – EVERY SINGLE PERSON – and there are so many of you! – who helped write a post card, knock on a door, make a phone call, host a lawn sign, tell their friends to vote and support me, host an event at their home! Some of you have done this for years in fact!
WE DID THIS TOGETHER!!!!!
It was a bit of a surreal experience to be working for so many years and to have a muted celebration because so many are understandably focused on what can transpire at the national level. I am even more glad now that I can bring my background in constitutional law to the State legislature to ensure that we do everything we can to protect our most fundamental rights in Connecticut.
We must continue this work to protect our democracy in every way we can! This is my way and my contribution to our path forward, and what makes me the most proud is that my daughters have been actively engaging in the democratic process for the same number of years.
In fact, my most special moment from Election Day 2024! was when I went with my family to the polls and my daughters came with me to fill out my ballot. When I filled out my name, my little one gently put her hand on mine. She is only eight years old. But she understood, in that moment, what running for and being in office means to me. Maybe she also understands that I am doing this for her, to make sure that she will still have the opportunity to live in a society in which government is by the people and for the people, and in which we have a vibrant democracy focused on the public good.
Congratulations again Sujata, how fortunate are we to have you as our state senator at this time
