  1. The spin is now out of control.
    From the CT Post
“But,” the mayor’s office added, “That doesn’t take away from his right to run for state Senate [his delinquent taxes], if he so chooses. He’s a councilman and well-respected job creator in our community.”
This is 10 times worse. It would be one thing if he wasn’t a councilman but HE IS. And apparently Finch and his administration do not see anything wrong with that!!!!
A sitting Bridgeport Council member owes the city $140,000 in back taxes and Finch says its his right to run for State Senate as a well-respected councilman.

    1. Finch could mention Ernie Newton, but he doesn’t. DeJesus definitely has to answer for his back taxes. It is shame he was not properly vetted for his attempted run. Did this man not know the embarrassment it would cause to himself, his family, constituents and the city as well as the Mayor and the DTC? If Gomes cannot pull this one off it would be sad. Only because of this unexplained debt. I was hopeful Dejesus would have been a supporter for the Mayor and Bridgeport but apparently they chose the wrong man. Although I wouldn’t compare DEJESUS TO JOE GANIM, it is apparent raising his position would not be the astute thing to do. These actions do ultimately come back to haunt one. I WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE MR. DEJESUS IS MAKING ARRANGEMENTS TO PAY OFF THE DEBT. THIS IS BECOMING A SOAP OPERA, NOT GOOD. IT SOURS THE MARKETING CAMPAIGN, BRIDGEPORT IS GETTING BETTER.

      1. Steve, if Gomes does not pull this off it will be sad, but no fault of his. They are already posturing to pull an AB blitz. That’s how things are done. They cheat. Their candidate is a cheat, his lawyer is a cheat, and the “cheat” rolls uphill.

I have faith in Gomes. He is an honest, well-loved representative of his district. Enough of them know. There will be enough. I have faith.

  2. Is it a shock Finch supports DeJesus’ choice not to pay taxes? He does what Finch tells him, therefore he is a good man with “a little tax issue.” Finch is disgusting.

  3. These people are delusional! I only wish they’d added to their statements re DeJesus: “Bridgeport: Getting Better Everyday!”

    From the CT Post

“It’s not like he’s an elected official who has been convicted of a crime against the public trust,” Brett Broesder, Finch’s spokesman, said of DeJesus, while crediting Finch for “getting tough” on tax delinquents.

Martinez said DeJesus is invested in the city and a passionate fighter.

“He is young, intelligent and committed to our community,” she said.

“The [special panel of the state Democratic Party’s] resolution was to leave the status quo,” said Michael Mandell, state Democrats’ executive director, Friday.

    The “status quo,” Mr. Mandell?

In Bridgeport, there was clearly a rigged circus of a process, and you, recently appointed Executive Director, Michael Mandell, would like us all to accept it as the “status quo?”

Who is this Michael Mandell? See below.**

As the CDP continues to build for future cycles, Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo announced that Michael Mandell will assume the role of Executive Director. Mandell most recently served as Deputy Campaign Manager for Governor Dan Malloy’s re-election. Prior, he worked on the Governor’s 2010 race, later serving in the administration as a legislative aide. He has also worked as a policy advisor to the Governor in a variety of areas, including education, public safety, and economic and consumer affairs.

“Jonathan has built an infrastructure never before seen in Connecticut–and it helped lead us to victory. He modernized the Party, building it nearly from the ground up. As we maintain its strength, we are all grateful for his exceptional work over the past several years,” Governor Dan Malloy said. “I know Michael will do an outstanding job as Executive Director. He has a wide-variety of talents–policy knowledge, political awareness, campaign experience–that are well-suited for this role. There is no ceiling to what he will be able to accomplish.”

“This is a new role, with new challenges, that I’m excited to take on. I’m looking forward to working with our staff, DSCC members, and all of our dedicated volunteers to deliver an even bigger, stronger, faster Democratic Party. We’re going to keep this Party–and this state–going forward by out-hustling and out-working our opponents. We’re going to build on the successes of the past as we look to deliver results in the future,” Michael Mandell said.

    1. The mayor’s spokesman says he is “getting tough on tax delinquents.”
For the record, someone doesn’t pay taxes on two businesses for over 10 years, I prefer to use the term ‘tax cheats.’
So I guess Brett is telling us Finch is tough on tax cheats except for the ones he knows? Oh that’s right, I forgot about Sal DiNardo.

    2. I am guessing Finch remembers the state’s former tax amnesty program. Not bothering to get into details, it would appear the way Bridgeport’s plan works is if you are a tax cheater and the mayor knows you and the mayor likes you then you don’t have to pay your back taxes.

    1. Maria Pereira, I agree with you, Dejesus has the right to run for public office. I believe in second chances but this guy has never asked to be forgiven or has repaid what he has done wrong. The honorable thing for DeJesus would be to step down as a City Councilman and not run in a State Senate race until he is able to tell the taxpayers I’ve paid what I owe the City.

  4. Bridgeport is getting better and better … Bridgeport is getting better and better and better … Bridgeport is getting better and better and better and better … Bridgeport is getting better and better and better and better and better and better … and better … and better … and … and …

This message was paid for by the Business Council of Fairfield County and approved by candidate Dan Malloy.

  5. Now the State of CT under Dannel Malloy allows DeJesus to collect State taxpayer funds, allows Genesis Motor Works to continue to collect sub-contractor funds while operating at 94 Noble Ave. a CT Emissions Program in a facility that owes the City of Bridgeport thousands $$$. He gets the money, we get to pay him and he doesn’t pay tax on any of it!
And Finch, the Democrat Party endorses him, the registrar says okay.
What does the Federal Government have to say about this?

  6. Rockin,
You are right about that. How can the state allow this to happen? Or else the state wouldn’t, they rely on the municipalities to report these tax cheats to them.
Damned shame is what it is.

  7. *** Give the man time to make some arrangements with the city on his taxes, however he should drop out of the upcoming political race ’til he’s good, “no?” ***
