From Mayor Finch:
The citywide annual leaf pickup program will begin Monday, Nov. 21, weather permitting. Residents can either rake leaves onto the grassy area between the sidewalk and curb for pick-up, or place leaves in brown recyclable bags, placed at the curb on their scheduled recycling day.
Leaf collection will continue through December 16, 2011. After that time, the City will continue to pick up leaves in brown recyclable bags, placed at the curb on the regularly scheduled recycling day. Bundled branches, no more than four feet in length, also can be placed at the curb for pick up on recycling day.
The City does not accept plastic bags during leaf pickup. Plastic bags and other containers of leaves may be taken to the Asylum Street Transfer Station during normal operating hours. The Transfer Station is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12 noon.

Predating this current administration, all leaves have been delivered to a private operator next to the Seaside landfill who then grinds them, composts them and sells it back to you for $20 a yard, delivery not included. He gives something like 20% of his profits back to the City. This is good in that it is being recycled but perhaps there should be more education with residents to advise them, this still turns into black gold for their gardens. Compost Happens, a rind is a terrible thing to waste.
