Musician and content creator Joe Grits is egalitarian in his approach to community criticism. He’s become the face of punditry following the police-involved shooting death of his friend Dyshan Best who fled from police after a vehicle stop on the East Side.
Police say Best brandished a gun and a weapon was found at the scene. Grits and family members claim there was no gun, but a vape. The matter is under investigation by the Connecticut inspector general. No timeline has been issued about a final report.
The other day Police Chief Roderick Porter and Mayor Joe Ganim hosted a lightly-attended community meeting in the East End that was advertised well in advance. Grits was there but the “Facebook activists” highly critical of the police department did not show.
The video above showcases Grits in a running monologue on Facebook Watch, condemning the no shows and fielding feedback in real time.
