From Democratic mayoral candidate John Gomes:
GOMES SPEAKS OUT AGAINST PROPOSAL TO HAVE STATE TAKE OVER BRIDGEPORT SCHOOLS
Bridgeport Mayoral candidate John Gomes weighed in today on the Mayor’s proposal for the state to take over Bridgeport’s school system.
“This has happened because Mayor Finch hasn’t made education the priority it should be. He hasn’t shown the leadership we’ve needed,” Gomes said in speaking against the proposal.
“I just don’t think we need the same people who run the Department of Motor Vehicles to be in charge of our children’s future,” Gomes added. “I feel that the education of our youth is the residents of Bridgeport’s responsibility and that is how it should be. It truly takes a village, not the State,” he said.
Gomes says the answer is to reprioritize spending, and end the influence of politics as usual in the city Hall. “Instead of giving myself a pay raise, like Mayor Finch, I’ll work to give our children a quality education and get this city back on track to meet the challenges of the future,” he said.
