Mayor Bill Finch, City Clerk Fleeta Hudson and Town Clerk Alma Maya will receive the oath of office for new four-year terms Thursday, 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 45 Lyon Terrace. Nice to have job security!
City Council members and city sheriffs will also be sworn in. What, no Board of Education members? We’re waiting on the Connecticut Supreme Court to issue a ruling on the legality of the state takeover of city schools. What’s your prediction on that decision?
The oath of office is one of those nights when folks come together and put the political BS aside for an evening to celebrate public service. Former mayors generally show up, as well as friends, neighbors and family members of elected officials. Music plays, choirs sing and hey, a reception will follow at the Bijou Theatre on Fairfield Avenue. The public is invited to attend the festivities.
*** Groundhog Day again, no? ***
Mayor Finch had to run the gauntlet of Bridgeport voters to earn his oath of office. In the process you and other members created much fodder, all of which benefited OIB.
That’s not called job security–that’s called the next term.
Will the FEDS be there?
