First Bob Keeley, then Chris Caruso, now Lee Samowitz, all of whom served in Connecticut’s State House.
State Senate candidate Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, in a four-way race to replace a retiring Marilyn Moore, has picked up key endorsements for the Aug. 13 Democratic primary in Connecticut’s 22nd Senatorial covering about one third of Bridgeport, all of Trumbull and a piece of Monroe.
She’s also backed by another Bridgeport resident, state housing official Shante Hanks.
“I am backing Sujata because, as the only female and professional with expertise in Constitutional law candidate from the suburbs, she is best qualified to build the coalitions and present a plan to address systemic problems from disparity of property tax relief and enabling legislation for voluntary regional service districts,” said Samowitz who represented Black Rock, West End and Brooklawn for 18 years. “Although many fine Democratic candidates are running for State Senate in our district, the two biggest related and systemic problems still hurting our neighborhoods are sustainable property tax relief for homeowners and the need for regional cooperation.”
While in the State House Samowitz drafted brownfield incentives, implemented a homestead
exemption to ease property tax burdens, helped develop the Burroughs Community Center, and shepherded Black Rock’s gateway project on Fairfield Avenue.
“We are all in this together,” said Gadkar-Wilcox. “Regional problems such as promoting development, lowering mil rates, and reducing our property tax burden require Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Monroe to work together. That is what I will advocate for as the 22nd District’s new state senator. It is truly an honor to have an environmental champion and a fighter for reduced property taxes endorse my candidacy.”
All of Bridgeport’s great State Reps our telling us something, Bob Keeley, then Chris Caruso, now Lee Samowitz!
