Dueling Police Substations, Finch Announces One For Trumbull Gardens

A day after former Mayor Joe Ganim announced he’s opening a police substation/satellite campaign office at Trumbull Gardens, Mayor Bill Finch says he’s launching a police substation at 505 Trumbull Avenue. From city Communications Director Brett Broesder:

Mayor Bill Finch and Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr. announced the opening of a new police substation in the Trumbull Gardens apartment complex as part of an ongoing $1.2 million security upgrade to the city’s public housing complexes.

The Bridgeport Housing Authority already has invested $170,000 in equipment to enhance safety at Trumbull Gardens as part of a months-long security assessment of all properties run by Park City Communities.

The upgrades come as the Park City Communities and the city prepare to begin demolition at Marina Village and construction to provide new, affordable housing for residents.

“Safety is first and foremost in our minds. We have initiated new foot patrols in all of our public housing complexes. We are working to enhance safety not just through increased police presence but also through an integrated system of security cameras,” said Police Chief Joseph Gaudett Jr. “We have been working with Park City Communities for several months to construct a comprehensive security plan.”

  1. Lmao, it appears if you want something done in the city, just have Joe say he’s going to do it and watch how fast Finch runs to get it done. It seems as if Finch knows a good idea when he hears it from another candidate.

  2. Maybe Joe Ganim could put a substation up here in the 138th as we have very little police coverage. It took Ganim to get Finch off his ass.

  3. What a joke, dueling substations. They don’t stop crime. The police officers in those neighborhoods aren’t obligated to use them and they won’t last.

  4. Such a sham! 1.2M was nearly all spent last year between two other projects! The police substation could have been done years ago, but the commission appointed by Finch never acted on it. Finch is straight losing on every front at this point!

  5. Brilliant move! Yes it is politics but it is legit and doesn’t serve as a headquarters. It doesn’t matter where a good idea comes from. It does matter if it is implemented. Ganim may want to use the same ploy in the P.T. Barnum apartments but I cannot imagine it is legal for a former felon to open a police substation in the projects. What in hell is the message there? I am grateful Bridgeport’s Finest are always seen in my neighborhood.

  6. Substations mean nothing if there are no police patrols both walking and in cars. Substations are public relations that are not open all the time but the residents believe someone is there. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, the residents of Trumbull Gardens are scared to death because there have been two shootings with 10 people shot and one dead but nothing from Mayor Finch and the police chief about solving these crimes. You have a police force that is largely from out of town with no connection to the residents of Trumbull Gardens.

  7. Hahaha, you would think Bill would wait a few days before announcing “his idea” for a substation, I mean he looks ridiculous now, copying Joe’s idea. Keep it going Joe, Bill will follow your lead. Finch is getting exposed weekly now, what an embarrassment this must have been.

    1. Harvey, I think you are advising both Mary-Jane Foster and Joe Ganim to keep it up! Yes, Finch should have waited a few days … really?

  8. Steve is coming off as childish as Finch. Ganim has made Finch look like a fool and is forced to copy him. How much stupider, smug and childlike can you get, Little Billy?

    1. Boo hoo hoo. I am so childish. Boo hoo hoo. Don’t cry! Don’t cry!

I just left the Mayor’s announcement. The Bluefish stadium looks packed. Bridgeport is getting better every day!

Captain’s Cove was packed. That was a good thing and it was very nice to meet mostly Bridgeporters who were excited to be there. So many people and not one person mentioned Trumbull Gardens including the people who live there. As the residents say, as long as they have the cameras and policemen they don’t care who put them there. Kudos to the Mayor. Great speech, huge crowd and you could feel the electricity in the air. I enjoyed myself and lost three lbs even with the food and two beers. It was so packed it was like a sauna! It was nice to see so many familiar faces including a few Ganim supporters. It will be difficult telling the town committee your constituents are supporting Ganim when they were all at Captain’s Cove.

  9. It appears the mayor and police chief only react under pressure. How many others programs could be implemented we have been told to wait for. Ex., better collection of taxes, reduction of expenses, lowering of taxes, timely financial reporting, the paid-for previous assessment of property values, elimination of ghost positions. The list can go on and on. If the police and mayor can put up a substation in one day instead of 90 days imagine what else could be accomplished.

  10. As long as there is a political payoff.
Exactly how long did it take Joe to move back to his beloved Bridgeport after his release from custody? A lot more than 90 days for sure.

  11. Who cares how long it took? He is still the best candidate and will kick the current PD brass to the curb as is needed. Gaudett has been reactive to crime as opposed to proactive and still screws it up.

  12. CT Post is reporting Mario was at Ganim’s substation opening today. What does that tell you? It tells me Joe Ganim is the next mayor of the city of Bridgeport.

CT Post reporting also Finch said his substation was in the works for months, except the press release was sent out only 48 minutes before its opening. Ask the City workers how much notice they had to deliver the furniture. They were pulled off their regular assignments and made to dig up furniture and get it over there STAT! I hope they move Finch’s shit out of the annex just as fast.

    1. city hall smoker, if the Mayor announcement was any indication of the the election, you will be a very unhappy person. Why wouldn’t Mario be there? He is a personal friend of Joe Ganim. Maybe for a moment today before channel 12 news had Chief Gaudett on, Mario had a glimmer of the old days. He should have been at Mayor Finch’s packed house. What I did find disturbing were the Bridgeport cops and police cars parked in front of an illegal headquarters/substation restroom. Cops and cars, taxpayers’ dollars? Very curious … not really.

      1. Oops–Mario Testa was at the Finch Function. So many people there, city hall smoker. I know that doesn’t make you happy. I would guess between 450 and 600 people. Packed!

  13. Steve, I was there. We were all told to attend because Adam Wood would be keeping score. Many employees were there because they were forced to, not because they wanted to.

  14. One of the best forms of flattery is when others are compelled to “copy” you.

I honestly don’t think Finch realizes how pathetic, silly and idiotic he looks.

Quite a few people are laughing at him.
