Developer Bringing New Sports Bar Downtown, Across From McLevy Green

From Brian Lockhart, CT Post:

The new owner of a key block of buildings in the heart of downtown is keeping the anchor tenant, the Stress Factory comedy venue, and the 32 existing residential apartments, but bringing in a new restaurant.

“They’re a great tenant, do a great business,” Michael Massimino of Branford-based MB Financial said of Vinnie Brand’s comedy club, which has become a reliable attraction since opening in 2018.

And Brand confirmed, “Our intention is to definitely stay there. The guy is great to deal with.”

The properties at Main and State streets, across from McLevy Green, used to house People’s Bank and Playhouse on the Green. They were redeveloped nearly a decade ago by Forstone Capital for 32 apartments, many affordably priced, the club and a German beer hall. The real estate investment firm at the time was hailed for its major role in efforts to revive the neighborhood with new residents and new things to do. However, the firm lost these specific addresses in early April through foreclosure.

  1. So in my opinion, that Gathers Restaurant has an amazing WOW when you walk in. With the parking garage opening up I’m wondering if it be best to put a fine dining in there. I guess at one time it was Roberto’s? Isn’t there a sports bar already across the street? The Bank? Michael White own’s it. How about a good American/Seafood place instead?

    1. Seafood? Don’t know the survival rate of that kind of restaurant, I don’t know the racial demographics of its local costumer base, or how much it relied on the Stressfactoy’s and Amp’s outside influx of their customer base, never patronize the place outside of a political event held there during,G2s elections gatherings. It seems like a Colombian restaurant is going to occupy the space so the demographics locally will be Latino based, I would think.
