Dick’s Sporting Goods will open a New Super Specialty store for runners and golfers later next summer in the Steel Pointe section of Bridgeport CT.
The Findlay Township-based retailer (NYSE: DKS) said Thursday that True Runner would offer footwear, apparel and other products and services.
“In our continued efforts to explore new ways to serve athletes and build upon Dick’s Sporting Goods’ already deep commitment to the sport in Bridgeport, we believe that True Runner will provide a top-of-the-line experience to those who enjoy the sport,” said Dick’s Sporting Goods President and COO Joe Schmidt in a prepared statement.
Dick’s has 480 stores in 44 states, plus 80 Golf Galaxy stores.
True Runner is a specialty runner’s store. Nothing the size of a Dick’s or other big box. I would hope they would be seeking out something more of a destination store the likes of a Bean or Cabela’s. Something to make use of the proximity to 95. Hope springs eternal, especially in Bridgeport.
Dick’s has released no such announcement. This is a cut-and-paste of a Dick’s press release from earlier this year regarding a True Runner store opening in Pittsburgh.
Why is Mayor Timpanelli making this announcement? Shouldn’t this announcement be made by Deputy Mayor Finch?
CT,
To quote you, “the size of a Dick’s”?
What’s unusual about that?
i was hoping for a Bass Pro Shops.
Cabelas would also be great.
BPS would be a great first announcement. Personally I’d also like to see a Dave ‘n’ Busters and ESPN Zone.
ESPN Zone is only on the West Coast now. The one in Times Square has been closed for about two years. DNB would be cool, too.
What? No Walmart? Just kidding!
A Bass Pro Shops would be awesome.
I really wish these decisions would be in the hands of someone other than Paul Timpanelli.
Hey Lennie, where is the OIB Bloggers Deserve to Die ad?
While we wait for the Sunday announcement, try guessing how long a lovemaking session with yahooy lasts. Answer: Shorter than the … (click on the link).

I have had no complaints about my best nine minutes.
Hey! Flatto should be the pointe man on this project.
Remember this so-called leader under Deputy Mayor Finch and his bosses would settle for a Dollar Store so they could make Bridgeport the city you can buy for a dollar, because it has been sold before for a few dollars. Paul Timpanelli’s ideal success story is getting his paycheck every two weeks and keeping his new sidekick Sleepy Hollow Eversley awake.
