From State Senator Ed Gomes:
HARTFORD – State Senator Ed Gomes (D-Bridgeport) announced today that the Bullard Havens Technical High School in Bridgeport is expected to receive a total of $273,200 in state funds for multiple building repairs and upgrades.
“Quality technical education opens doors for our young people. Throughout this recession, manufacturers and other Connecticut employers have complained they can’t find all the skilled workers they need, even with so many unemployed. Fortunately tech schools provide the training these companies need, and for students, that means a job after graduation. I am proud to support these building improvements at Bullard-Havens Tech in Bridgeport,” said Senator Gomes.
The money will be used to finance various alterations and improvements at the school, which will include:
• Upgrades to lecture halls and stairwells
• Electrical upgrades to the school bakery
• Exterior masonry repairs and sealing
• Replacement of overhead and exterior doors
• Roof repairs
• An upgrade to the student café
• Repair of the school’s loading dockAn item to approve expenditure of these funds has been added to the agenda for the next meeting of the State Bond Commission, scheduled for January 30th. It is expected that the measure will pass.
Senator Ed Gomes represents Bridgeport and Stratford in the State Senate, and serves as Senate Chair of the Housing Committee.
Good job Ed! I see you’re still working hard.
“What day is the 20th of February?”
I was eating breakfast with my 4-year-old granddaughter and I asked her, “What day is the 20th of February?”
She said “It’s President’s Day!”
She is a smart kid.
I asked “What does President’s Day mean?” I was waiting for something about Washington or Lincoln … etc.
She replied,
“President’s Day is when President Obama steps out of the White House, and if he sees his shadow we have one more year of unemployment.”
You know, it hurts when hot coffee spurts out your nose …
Jim, glad to see you took your meds today.
LOL.
It’s something–the $273,200 in state funds for multiple building repairs and upgrades.
However, let’s be real! It’s a small amount of money for such a list of repairs. Roof repair alone could cost more than that. Once the roofing company is on the roof with no one keeping an eye on the work being done–if any–who can assure me someone didn’t put holes on other areas of the roof or the job was done according to the contract? Why seek funds now? I’m sure someone must have known of the deterioration or wear and tear taking place.
*** Does Bullard-Havens, a state school, have to meet a certain standard of code building compliance after a certain amount of time? If so then just voting yes on funds that are already allocated for certain state schools is academic, no? *** Auto Pilot ***
