From the Foster campaign:
President Charles Paris, Vice President Bernard Webb, and the executive board of Bridgeport Police Union Local 1159 have voted unanimously to endorse Democratic candidate for mayor of Bridgeport Mary-Jane Foster. Local 1159 represents over 400 police officers in Connecticut’s largest city. Bridgeport has the largest police force in Connecticut.
“Mary-Jane brings a great deal of energy and new ideas to our city,” explained Paris. “In this economy, Bridgeport needs a leader who understands the important role that public safety plays in securing needed growth and development. We look forward to working with Mary-Jane to help Bridgeport and its residents move forward.”
“It is clear that my message about public safety and its connection to economic development and quality of life hit home with the union and that we’re on the same page,” stated Foster. “To stabilize taxes, Bridgeport needs to jumpstart development and that cannot happen unless people feel safe and secure. Public safety is a basic building block to any successful municipality.
These brave men and women put their lives on the line each and every day to protect and serve the residents and visitors to our city. They deserve our utmost respect and that hasn’t happened under the Finch administration.”
This amounts to a unanimous vote of no-confidence in Bill Finch …
Holy Cow!!!
Finch gave away the farm to mollify the cop union (unions stink) and they back Foster? Just goes to show you Finch is dreadful and has to go.
My crystal ball is indicating there will be another round of special ed teacher layoffs on October 6.
IEPs are legal documents.
I must be getting twitchy.
If the dead can’t vote, maybe they can donate to Finch’s campaign:

Good decision from Local 1159.
The rank-and-file members of the BPD have been making it known their displeasure with the Finch administration. Endorsements from unions representing iron workers, carpenters, sheet metal workers and deli clerks at Stop & Shop is all fine and good. A union representing police officers is another matter.
Say what you want about the BPD. They do a good job protecting and serving the public’s safety.
Their endorsement reflected the wishes of their members. This is a good thing. Is the Fire union next?
former liuna member, don’t count on that happening, the Fire union is scared.
The conflict of interest here is the iron workers and sheet metal workers and electricians are part of the building trades of Fairfield county.
Who may you ask is the chief bottle washer of the trades union?
None other than Peter Carroll, the brother of Charles Carroll.
Finch is trying to bust the unions and sell them down the privatizing river but of course Peter will back Charles’ play and sell all the unions down the river.
HEY-HEY, HO-HO, ONE-TERM BILL HAS GOT TO GO!!!
Bridgeport’s Finest! They do a great job and work hard. Glad to be on the same team.
They should along with every other union. They have not been funded for 3 years!!!
The police officers want the city to honor its obligation to the pension fund. Finch has shown no interest in the matter. He’s antipathetic, actually.
Finch has shown great interest in the matter of funding the pensions … funding them sometime in the future when the unicorns return. Right after the unicorns return I’M VOTING FOR FINCH!
To the Editor,
The recent letter by Reggie Walker touting the wonderful attributes of Mayor Finch was touching. The problem is most of the positive attributes that were given to Finch were really Mayor Fabrizi’s. That is not the only problem with his hyperbolic prose. Reggie Walker represents career cronyism. Every job he has ever had was moving from one political patronage position to another. I guess in some circles he is believed to bring in votes. Well let’s get more specific. Reggie Walker worked as the Economic Development director for the city of Bridgeport and other planning capacities, representing years of non-development for the city of Bridgeport. Also, he is an appointment of Mayor Finch’s on the Zoning Board, the very Board that almost approved a zone change that could have allowed Testo’s Restaurant to become another Sacred Heart University dorm in the North End of Bridgeport. I expect this to be another issue after the election. Cronyism has got to stop. Bridgeport is ready for a huge change. A mandate for Mary-Jane Foster. I am pleased Bridgeport’s Finest, the police department, has endorsed Mary-Jane Foster. That is a sad commentary for a sitting Mayor.
