“Wouldn’t That Be Illegal?” Campaign Adviser Warned Bradley

The federal election fraud trial of ex State Senator Dennis Bradley continued on Thursday with a campaign operative warning the candidate about comingling a campaign announcement for public office with a law firm event financed by Bradley.

Tran also testified Thursday about warning of potential illegal activity associated with the March 15, 2018, event at Dolphin’s Cove restaurant, which the jury saw video of Monday, the trial’s first day of Bradley’s trail on conspiracy and wire fraud charges.

Tran, a one-time Stratford Town Council candidate who is currently serving as a Navy reserve officer on active duty in Washington, D.C., described early planning meetings for Bradley’s campaign and a group chat he took part in with Bradley, the mother of Tran’s three children and Tina Manus, a former Stratford Town Council member Tran described as the “quarterback” of the campaign.

Manus, a codefendant of Bradley’s in the case, pleaded guilty in the case in 2021.

Weeks before the 2018 event, which Tran said he understood to be a “rollout party” for Bradley’s campaign, he asked what the logo on an invitation to the party should say, according to text messages admitted to evidence and shown to the jury of 12 people and four alternates.

“BDK Law Group Night to Remember,” Bradley responded.

“Wouldn’t that be illegal,” Tran said
